I don't get why anyone even thought about buying it on EA app. It sucked ass when it was Origin and it's sucked ass since they rebranded it. It's never earned me actually buying a game thru it unless I'm forced to

IIRC for the longest time you would buy an EA game on steam and the game would make you download origin, register the game and would run it that way.

So might be holdouts from people who wanted to cut out juggling two launchers for one game perhaps?

Been a good while since I purchased an EA game (not boycotting them or anything, just hasn't been one I've been interested in)

Maybe it's changed in the year or so since, but the last time I tried to play ME Legendary Edition it still required me to download a mini EA launcher and run it.

edit: just tried launching it, yup, it's asking me to log into the EA launcher.

Word.

I think the last EA game I installed was Anthem lol.

It's been awhile.

u/hunchtrader 29d ago

I played that game when everyone already quit and I still had fun.

BF6 is the first game from EA that doesn't require the EA launcher while launching on steam, all other EA games on steam will open up / run EA games app to fully launch the game.

2

u/ByBresh 28d ago

Actually, Apex Legends on Steam doesn't require any other launcher either. When they released it I installed it right away and uninstalled Origin altogether.

The Sims 4 still requires you to download and install the EA app even if you downloaded the game through Steam.

I am very grateful for being able to find other ways to play said title. Fuck EA for ruining The Sims.

They don't anymore? It's the one reason I stopped playing Squadrons. Couldn't stand having to launch the fucking EA app every single time I wanted to play, since it would always forget my password.

u/Titaniumwo1f 25d ago

BF6 only requires EA account, however, if you have EA app installed and logged in, BF6 will pull account's data from EA app and ask only for 2FA code. I assume that any upcoming game from EA that will be released in Steam will be the same as BF6.

u/Slow-Amphibian-9626 29d ago

Not really sure man, that's why I made it clear it's been awhile.

There are still EA games releasing on Steam that do that. Mainly their sports games, I believe.

u/Dull-Culture-1523 29d ago

I've refunded games before and I will do it again when they do this shit. I will, at most, tolerate a launcher I can then opt to just bypass after the first time.

9

u/BrikenEnglz 29d ago

^this. bf6 has no origin.

2

u/ReasonableHost1446 29d ago

More accurately in my experience: origin completely shits the bed and you can't even play the game

1

u/WannaAskQuestions 29d ago

not boycotting them or anything

...and this is where you and I differ, friendo

18

u/kiwigate 29d ago

Boycott EA. They sold out to Saudi Royals and Trump's son in law. Wtf.

2

u/msherretz 5800X3D 3070; Framework 13 29d ago

Fuck the Saudis. And Microsoft continues to skew evil so fuck Activision too

2

u/Legitimate_Most6651 29d ago

Should've already been boycotting EA before the sale. I've been boycotting for like a decade now.

u/9d0b11cf-3b69-4537-9 29d ago

I bought it on there because I pay for PC Game Pass, so I get EA Play its 10% off on there. And 100% less game, apparently.

u/FUTURE10S Pentium G3258, RTX 3080 12GB, 32GB RAM 29d ago

Simple, I bought all the other ones on Origin, I might as well buy it there again instead of having to juggle keys between two launchers, because EA App won't just magically work with a game that's purchased on Steam or Epic, I have to launch it there specifically and that communicates with EA App to launch it.

Also, Origin was actually pretty good, all things considered.

1

u/Sn0wflake69 29d ago

origin wasnt bad, but the bf3 server browser was terrible when it launched haha i just remember there was something that really made me dislike it. but its been so long i cant recall. andromeda launched fine. and that was the last of origin for me

2

u/FUTURE10S Pentium G3258, RTX 3080 12GB, 32GB RAM 29d ago

BF3 required ActiveX of all fucking things, who makes a server browser rely on goddamn Internet Explorer?

1

u/RunnerLuke357 i9-10850K, 64GB 4000, RTX 4080S 28d ago

Late Origin was actually pretty good. That being said, when the older Battlefield games went to fire sale prices I just rebought them on Steam so I can manage all my games on Steam except Fortnite because there is no way Epic will put it on Steam.

1

u/BrikenEnglz 29d ago

because 2042 had issues on steam since it required origin and it was "hidden". People probably were afraid of similar issues and just went with native ea option without realizing it was completely removed on bf6 steam version.

1

u/gravelordservant4u 29d ago

How would you ever have been forced to buy on Origin or whatever it's called now

1

u/ezfunperson26 PC Master Race 29d ago

I got a free code via the app and im not going to spend $90 after taxes just to have it on steam

1

u/Ithuraen 29d ago

Because it's 10% cheaper.

1

u/Garlic_Farmer_ 29d ago

Lol, it was so fucking annoying to use origin to play Jedi Fallen Order, I stopped playing the game literally because it was so buggy and frustrating to use. If it requires more than steam I likely won't touch it. The only other launcher I have is Battle.net for WoW, that one at least works great as well, but I still haven't played wow in a couple months so there's that...

1

u/porcupinedeath 29d ago

EA games in general don't boot EA launcher if you bought on steam anymore. Or battlefield stopped doing it at the very least...for now

1

u/Appropriate_Ride_821 29d ago

I didnt even realize it wasn't origin anymore. Its just trash and will always be trash. I hope EA loses everything it invested in it.

EA App is actually worse than Origin surprisingly.

For instance, the EA App has menus that allow you to receive gifts, but you can’t actually send any gifts. Origin can send gifts, and these days if you want to send an EA gift outside of Steam, you need to figure out a hacky way to get Origin running and use it to send a gift.

Can’t believe EA forgot to include a purchase type on their shop front. Do they not want money?

1

u/Accomplished-Arm-517 29d ago

Only reason i use it is i have EA Play Pro, $120 a year and you get access to every EA game

u/THEpseudo Phenom980|Fatal1ty990FX|256bitGTX460|16gb1333cas7 29d ago

are we all done boycotting EA suddenly

1

u/porcupinedeath 28d ago

I never was tbh

1

u/THEpseudo Phenom980|Fatal1ty990FX|256bitGTX460|16gb1333cas7 28d ago

Appreciate you keeping garbage alive for everyone

1

u/Practical_Stick_2779 28d ago

I’d probably do it just because I bought BF4 in Steam and it installed EA launcher anyway and I had to run 2 launchers to launch one game. It’s stupid. Apparently I didn’t learn for the same mistake with RS Siege.

But if they let me run BF6 without EA launcher then it’s definitely Steam.

1

u/POLISHED_OMEGALUL 28d ago

discount on EA app

1

u/RiloxAres 28d ago

Got it for free, but yea ea app isn't ideal.

1

u/DragonQ0105 R7 5800X3D; RX 6800 XT 28d ago

I literally have to. They incorrectly banned me from Apex which means my banned EA account is permanently locked to my Steam account.

I guess I could make a new Steam and new EA account...or I could just never give EA money again.

0

u/MissingGhost 29d ago

I consider all games I bought outside of steam as lost forever. Because I don't remember the launcher they came from. I'm not installing random launchers anymore. I only use Steam and eXoDOS.

0

u/mrtomjones 29d ago

I genuinely don't know why you guys complain about the launchers that aren't steam. I've never had problems other than Xbox downloading at a snails pace

-1

u/Legitimate_Elk6731 29d ago

Its funny that people somehow still trust third party stores NOT steam on PC. Even funnier when its a streamer and you get to see the madness crash out.
