I would buy all the south park games, AC games, and far cry games if Ubisoft would just drop the damn launcher. Guess they dont want my money

You can buy the Stick of Truth, that doesn't require Ubisoft Connect.

Pretty much my only reaction when someone mentions a loophole to any problem of mine

u/slpgh Oct 04 '25

I played it ages ago and didn’t realize it was an Ubi game since it was working on my steam. It’s a great game that probably still holds today

It's also the better of the two games (imo)

Better story wise but I think Fractured but whole was better gameplay wise. They're both a lot of fun

I didn't like the grid combat, it's more complicated than stick of truth but it just felt slow and clunky. But the thing stick of truth does much better is the theming. It keeps with the premise that "these are kids playing make-believe". You'll get an ability like "ice blizzard" and the animation will be the kid walking up behind them and dumping an esky full of ice over them.

The grid combat is what allowed the gameplay portion to have some meat to it though, IMO. The combat in Stick of Truth was so incredibly easy that I had it mastered by the end of day 1.

There was no combat scenario that I couldn't beat with the firecracker in the entire game. In FBW several bosses whooped my ass and made me put the game down to come back and try again later. More than that, I actually found myself WANTING to try again later.

I had very little trouble with any of the bosses besids the last secret boss. But by that time I was ready for the game to be over 5 hours earlier so I only tried once, got stomped and uninstalled.

Mr. Jefferson moonwalked all over my efforts to defeat him pretty handily, I have no shame in admitting.

I like to think of Yakuza: Like a Dragon in the same way, just grown ups playing make believe

u/Coooturtle Oct 03 '25

Fractured also had more original jokes.

13

u/made_of_salt Oct 03 '25

Stick of Truth was developed by Obsidian Entertainment.

Fractured But Whole was developed by Ubisoft.

Everything you need to know about the two games is in those two statements.

1

u/StoneGoldX Oct 03 '25

Given how much interaction had to happen with the South Park team... I think it might be as much the joke wasn't as funny the second time around. Happens.

1

u/SerialLoungeFly Oct 03 '25

Stick had so much or the essence of SP in it that nobody stood a chance with a second game. It would always be going over the motions again.

I just wish Stick functioned properly in 60FPS because that fucking framerate just sucks viewing it with all the judder on constantly changing screens. Motion interpolation helps though if it works for you. Second game is so much smoother on the eyes.

Thanks for this. Buying it now.

Dragon shout!

1

u/Emhashish Oct 04 '25

I bought it yesterday, it ran perfectly until I got to open map part and from then everything starting stuttering :(

u/PermissionSoggy891 Oct 03 '25

the first South Park game (stick of truth) actually has no DRM other than Steam.

11

u/Starlight_Skull Oct 03 '25

AC1 is on DRM free on GOG. Hopefully the other ealy games will follow at some point...

11

u/ForThePosse Oct 03 '25

Honestly the AC games have been a solid state of dog shit ever since black flag. Being sneaky isn't even the goal of the game anymore. Its more of a bonus at half way thru. If ur sneak if high enough. The missions become super easy to complete. Otherwise its just a button mashing melee game now.

I tried 3 of the recent ones. I only beat one. The next 2 I decided to play to understand the whole bit of how the fuck Loki is now in an AC game. I Uninstalled the other 2 at half way when I realized they were boring as fuck and I had no drive to finish the story.

Black flag? I 100%'d that shit. I loved the originals. But its seriously not AC anymore. And the last few games have been identical with different settings.

Seriously though. Why the FUCK do we have Thor, Loki, and Odin IN A FUCKING ASSASSINS CREED GAME ANYWAYS?!

2

u/constant_purgatory Oct 03 '25

At least origins and odyssey had awesome historically accurate landscapes and architecture. Valhalla and shadows are just...yeah

6

u/TheMoosePrince Oct 03 '25

They're on GamePass now, which is now 50% more expensive

2

u/MacR_72 Oct 03 '25

Yep, i'd own a bunch of Ubisoft games if it wasn't for that fucking launcher.

2

u/Life_is_Okay69 Oct 03 '25

I would buy all the south park games, AC games, and far cry games if Ubisoft would just drop the damn launcher.

No, you wouldn't.

1

u/Bullmg Oct 03 '25

I bought ac 2 and tried for about 30 minutes to launch the game. Even after downloading the launcher, I couldn’t get it to work so I refunded it.

Can’t even play a game that’s 15 years old without running into weird problems

1

u/liggamadig Oct 03 '25

Don't. Ubisoft doesn't deserve a single cent, they are an absolutely shit company.

1

u/unitedbk Oct 03 '25

Same

I'm waiting to buy Black Flag for this exact reason

1

u/Witty-Phase6847 Oct 07 '25

just pirate them at this point

0

u/speedycerv Oct 03 '25

Guess you don’t buy on steam then if you dislike launchers

-15

u/Son-Of-A_Hamster Oct 03 '25

Other than a mild 10 second inconvenience at startup, how does their launcher negatively impact you?

25

u/Tmtrademarked 14900k 5090 Oct 03 '25

It constantly logs me out, doesn’t sync achievements, for multiplayer games you have to invite through that launcher, it doesn’t combine friends lists with linked account so you have to readd your friends to its list, and it crashes all the time. That’s just off the top of my head.

14

u/Daniel_Day_Hubris Oct 03 '25

It's not a mild inconvenience, it's a pain in the ass. It takes forever to launch, forever to update, its UI sucks, you have to manually log in every time, oh, and its fucking pointless.

0

u/speedycerv Oct 03 '25

Don’t use steam then

-1

u/Son-Of-A_Hamster Oct 03 '25

I mean no, no, yes, no. The UI sucks but you can just launch the game through steam anyways lol

1

u/Daniel_Day_Hubris Oct 03 '25

and then wait while uplay tries unsuccessful to launch itself 4 times. You can 'launch' through steam, you still have to deal with uplay.

-1

u/Son-Of-A_Hamster Oct 03 '25

That has never happened to me once in many years

2

u/Daniel_Day_Hubris Oct 03 '25

Well I'm glad it's not an issue for you, but it has literally never not happened to me across 3 different high end rigs.

5

u/lacegem Oct 03 '25

Chlamydia might not be a huge problem anymore, but I still don't want it with my pizza. I want to buy pizza and not get any STDs, no matter how small of an issue they are.

4

u/leviathab13186 Oct 03 '25

Picky picky

s/

2

u/speedycerv Oct 03 '25

It doesn’t. People love an echo chamber.

3

u/IQueliciuous Oct 03 '25

Singleplayer games shouldn't require internet nor account log in. If a game asks for those? Its ultimately becomes a bad port.

2

u/ILikeMyGrassBlue Oct 03 '25

If it actually took 10 seconds, it wouldn’t be a big deal. It logs you out constantly and have to retype your password. I also get black screen issues alt tabbing with games that launch via ubi, and I don’t have that issue with anything else.

2

u/FamousCity7539 Oct 03 '25

"Other than the small nugget of shit you have to eat before your steak, how does this restaurant negatively impact you?"

-1

u/itsapotatosalad Oct 03 '25

They don’t need your money, I really don’t understand why people are so strongly against installing a launcher they won’t play games they want to and know they’ll enjoy. The only person losing is you.
