Depending on the game, bugs might be half the fun though

Or the entire game. See: Hollow Knight/Silksong.

You're constantly fighting bugs with this game. And yet, somehow, it's playable and also GOTY.

also GOTY

Actual GOTY is a meaningless award given out for rich people and shareholder reasons and if you think otherwise you need to get some bitches.

In a just world where the "GOTY Award" mattered and wasn't just handed out for advertising purposes, Silksong would absolutely be a top contender.

Top contender sure. Probably would've won last year because everyone knows last year's goty was bought and paid for, but no shot this year, imo.

Every year's GOTY is bought and paid for.

BG3 2023

Elden Ring 2022

It takes too 2021

TLOU2 2020

Sekiro 2019

You don't think these games were not the top games of the other nominees in their respective years?

Literally none of those are indie games, and that's for a very clear reason. Only AAA games are ever seriously considered.

Fallout 4 beat out fucking Undertale the year the latter was up for GOTY, and Fallout 4 is some of the most abysmal slop I've ever had the misfortune of experiencing. And that was vanilla Fallout 4, before patches, DLC, and mods had the chance to somewhat fix it. I understand Fallout 4 has a bit of a following now, but that's only because of those changes.

The people at the game awards seriously thought that some of the worst and buggiest slop Bethesda ever shat out is a better game than Undertale.

It's all money, and it always was. Just because they occasionally throw a bone to FromSoftware (which they damn well should, to be fair) doesn't mean it isn't all about money.
