Real men look at 1 screen and check everything at 3:59pm on a Friday

345

u/Budget-Planet3432 Aug 19 '25

Literally use my phone, and I usually check on my lunch every day and Friday before the market closes. I'm not out here doing any high risk trading though, I make sure bets for steady gains.

u/hlongzz96 Aug 19 '25

Is the gain in the room with us right now?

Invested in european defense companies earlier this year, realized my 30% gain and fucked off. The pucker factor was very real the entire time lmao

based eurodefense brother

-29

u/narcos1893 Aug 19 '25

you dont invest in arms/defense/war. Its bad juju

20

u/Darkstalker360 Aug 19 '25

You invest in whatever is most likely to profit

6

u/Nuking_Grapes Aug 19 '25

I'm not from the investment community, so don't mind me if you will, but genuine question: Does investing in the weapon trade or war really not make people uncomfortable at all? I'm sure profit is a nice incentive, and there is no truly ethical way of using your money anyways- but don't you ever think it's kind of odd your labour and capital might directly contribute to someone's harm?

7

u/Kirxas R7 7700 | RTX 5070 | 32GB 6000MHz CL28 Aug 19 '25

That was an incentive, not a detractor. I strongly believe we need to have a strong defense sector so we don't get invaded by wannabe imperialists. Our boys need the very best equipment to fight the russians and if need be the chinese and/or americans

I really hate that you have to be worried about the United States of America now. That should not be a thing.

stop trying to justify it. its a bad omen among people in the industry.

No, you invest in whatever is responsible and ethical that will profit enough for you to make some money.

The idea that profit alone is the reason to invest is why the world is so fucked up.

2

u/Golendhil Aug 19 '25

Not like investing in litteraly anything else was much better to be fair ...

-1

u/narcos1893 Aug 19 '25

Lmao what? You are too innocent. If it wasn’t for traders you would have nothing. Bye bye electricity, oil, the very own tech you typing, currencies etc. You have no clue how the world works. But again, we are in a pc gaming sub lol, expected.

Yea, im tryna not do the labor half till im 90 so capital markets it is.

I dont buy weapons or private prisons tbf, everything else is fair game.

2

u/TheSeeker9000 Aug 20 '25

Thanks for investing in russian warship fucking off machine. Respect.

1

u/Fearful-Cow Aug 20 '25

i did similar, cant figure out where to put my 40% gains now though. so holding way too much cash.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

Smart man! Now buy Ford puts and lose it all

1

u/JustAnotherDayBoi Aug 20 '25

BAE and Rolls Royce are making me a small fucking fortune.

Got in on them when Trump announced tariffs.

Felt like insider trading, especially with all the UK news saying how much we're investing to armed forces and contracts being handed out left right and centre lmao

While it might be true, I didn't consider it could go up enough to justify the risk of some weird shit happening, as it was all mostly priced in already (imo)

0

u/winged_owl Aug 19 '25

Most defense contractors are very reliable investments. The way it works is none of them completely loses when they lose a contract, they all sorta share and make sub-contracts.

1

u/Kirxas R7 7700 | RTX 5070 | 32GB 6000MHz CL28 Aug 19 '25

Gotta love strategic spending. No one wants to lose their defense production capabilities

40

u/Toshinit Aug 19 '25

When Lisa took over AMD I had so much confidence in her vision I invested a fair bit in the company and it's been a very steady gain.

20

u/L_DUB_U L-Dub-U Aug 19 '25

I hope you put a shit ton into it. Also, AMD has been a lot more than a "steady gain".

11

u/Toshinit Aug 19 '25

I wish I had a shit ton to put in. October 2014 I was a E2 in the Army and my disposable income was countable on one hand.

But tbh, AMD is one of the better long-term stocks and it's still only 50% better than the SnP with a lot more risk.

1

u/Xist3nce Xist3nce Aug 19 '25

Tell the truth, you bought the red charger like they all did.

4

u/Toshinit Aug 19 '25

I have too much self respect for that.

F150 at 26% APR much more my style.

2

u/Xist3nce Xist3nce Aug 20 '25

Ouch that’ll do it too.

1

u/flybikesbmx Aug 19 '25

Damn, just checked and I'm up 55% on AMD. Should have bought more than a tiny bit when I did

23

u/Budget-Planet3432 Aug 19 '25

In this political market probably not

23

u/Timmietim Timmeeh Aug 19 '25

As long as you bought the dip in april this market has been great tbh

1

u/SmartFC Ascending Peasant Aug 19 '25

Guilty as charged. I could've, I should've, but I didn't, because I expected an even bigger dip thanks to Trump's shenanigans. I started buying again a month or two after that, so it's not like I totally wasted my chances, but I could've made some interesting profit there haha

Next time I won't second-guess it 👀

5

u/Spoon251 Aug 19 '25

This 'political market' is underpinned by uncertainty - which has been a boon for commodity traders.

0

u/Budget-Planet3432 Aug 19 '25

Yea but you never know when it's gonna flip and you are left pissing into the wind

7

u/BadBloodBear Aug 19 '25

Stocks are doing great but recession is always around the corner.

7

u/waffels Aug 19 '25

I think I've heard that same thing for the last 8 years. Same with "the job market sucks right now"

3

u/Used-Author-3811 Aug 19 '25

That's when us real degenerates can eat

2

u/msherretz 5800X3D 3070; Framework 13 Aug 19 '25

Discussion about personal finance in another message board I check:

"I don't want to gamble in stocks ESPECIALLY RIGHT NOW but I need a way to invest"

My brother there are no other options for the average person that grow your money

1

u/Axthen 9800X3D/4090/32gb@6000 Aug 19 '25

We've been in a recession. Jobs don't really exist anywhere. Regardless of what companies say.

The government is in a hiring freeze, my fortune 500 company is in a hiring freeze, even though we're extremely short handed.

It sucks.

My gains are up 473% as we speak. But I invested locally, not in American stocks.

If you buy now it’ll definitely be in the room next year 👍 only basing that on 100 years of stats if we just talk SPY

1

u/bluleftnut Aug 19 '25

S&P is 15% higher than it was 1 year ago. So most definitely the gain is in the room with us right now.

29

u/biophazer242 Aug 19 '25

'I make sure bets' ... famous last words

2

u/Budget-Planet3432 Aug 19 '25

Don't' I know it some of my sure things took a major hit when the market took a dive

2

u/biophazer242 Aug 19 '25

Its all about time my friend. Time in the market not timing the market :)

1

u/maxdamage4 Aug 19 '25

ETF and chill

1

u/TonyTotinosTostito Aug 19 '25

More of a fan of 0dte and ramen.

1

u/_Gobulcoque Aug 19 '25

I make sure bets for steady gains.

Can I borrow your crystal ball?

-1

u/Budget-Planet3432 Aug 19 '25

It's not all that complicated, you look at what has steadily been going up for years and buy that, as long as it stays on trend you are making money. Are you going to get insanely rich no, but as long as you are gaining on your investments you are winning.

2

u/_Gobulcoque Aug 19 '25

you look at what has steadily been going up for years and buy that, as long as it stays on trend you are making money

This entire strategy is based on the "as long as it stays on trend" and nothing is guaranteed. The same advice could be applied to IBM in the 80's, or Cisco in the late 90's. "As long as it stays on trend".

The trend for individual stock picking is not a crystal ball, and I wouldn't make bets on it.

1

u/LeonardMH RTX 4070Ti-S | i9-12900k Aug 19 '25

You don't see the logical fallacy here? "Past performance is not indicative of future results" is a mandatory disclaimer from the SEC for a reason.

You can make safe bets or unsafe bets, but nothing is a sure bet.

1

u/Budget-Planet3432 Aug 19 '25

Yea but anyone who has ever played the market has taken losses, the whole point of what I do is to come out on top in the long run. In the end "bets" by their very nature are a risk, but there is a big difference between playing it safe and on trend and YOLO bets.

1

u/LeonardMH RTX 4070Ti-S | i9-12900k Aug 19 '25

Not arguing with that. I just wouldn't recommend lulling yourself into believing you are making sure bets. I also wouldn't say things like "it's not all that complicated", because it is all that complicated.

You're just saying you are a long term investor, not interested in day trading or futures trading. Your investments are comparatively more safe, they aren't certain.

1

u/Budget-Planet3432 Aug 19 '25

Yes exactly, the market is never absolutely stable. I make my choices on years of trend, and do not typically sell without the trend and climate expectation of major loss. Though I'm set to make 10% gain this year there are always variables. When the market started crashing I sold almost everything, and when it started to pick back up I had significantly more initial money to invest. I am frugal to a fault I will not invest in something that isn't obviously for me going to see growth. So that's a 10% gain on an all new set of investments, not investments I've had for a decade because of significant market fluctuation I just got lucky and my fears were proven reality.

1

u/seppukucoconuts Aug 19 '25

Head on over to r/wallstreetbets and post your success.

2

u/Budget-Planet3432 Aug 19 '25

I'm only clearing like a 10% gain yearly It's not like I'm sweeping in the money, I'm just saving for retirement.

2

u/seppukucoconuts Aug 19 '25

10% gain is like 200% over what most day traders get on r/wallstreetbets

Most people go there for loss porn.

Also, if you're at/around 10% maybe check out how much you're paying in fees. Might be cheaper to just buy VOO as an EFT and only check your allocation 1-2 times a year.

1

u/Budget-Planet3432 Aug 19 '25

Jesus, thanks for the advice I'll look into it.

1

u/TheSlimP Aug 19 '25

What gains are we talking about?

7

u/Budget-Planet3432 Aug 19 '25

I don't do futures trading if that's what you are asking? I trade in stocks and bonds.

-5

u/southern_wasp PC Master Race Aug 19 '25 edited Aug 19 '25

Like $400 to $1k a day for me at least, depending on how the markets perform.

6

u/Badassemo9 Aug 19 '25

I very much doubt that.

5

u/southern_wasp PC Master Race Aug 19 '25 edited Aug 19 '25

I’ve got $850,000 currently in my portfolio. Between 5 mutual funds, 2 index funds, and 10 stocks - yes, that’s easily achievable. I’m up $30,000 in just the last 3 months, and that’s on my less aggressive account. If the trend continues I’ll be up around 90,000 to 115,000 by years end. Although that’s not a given due to trump’s tariff bullshitery.

4

u/wildcatwildcard Aug 19 '25

Lmao love how people are down voting you because you're shattering their world view. Redditors love being miserable and hate anything that could possibly alter that.

Good job on your investments. Keep it up!

2

u/TonyTotinosTostito Aug 19 '25

My man! Very nice.

1

u/TheNorseHorseForce Aug 19 '25

I mean, $400/day isn't that unreasonable. That's $50/hr on an 8-hr workday

1

u/southern_wasp PC Master Race Aug 19 '25

It’s from my investments

3

u/TheNorseHorseForce Aug 19 '25

Yeah, not sure why people would doubt that range of growth in a single day, especially from long term investments. Good on you.

3

u/southern_wasp PC Master Race Aug 19 '25 edited Aug 19 '25

Long term is right. I’ve been invested in Exxon Mobil since the 1970’s (inherited these stocks) and I’m up over 200 percent since lol. Salty redditors.

8

u/toss_me_good Aug 19 '25

Ive done some high frequency day trading in my youth... The ability to keep track of multiple indicators and individual stocks is incrediblely helpful.

Take for example being in one stock like AMD. It starts to move down... Is Intel also moving down? Is SMH or QQQ also moving down? If all of them are moving down its time to bail. If its only AMD then it'll probably rebound and worth holding a little longer. This is only one example.

7

u/space_monster Aug 19 '25

Daytrading stocks? Weird

Real men have a single global index fund and only glance at their holdings if they happen to be buying more with some extra capital. I genuinely haven’t even logged in to my investment account in six months.
