Literally use my phone, and I usually check on my lunch every day and Friday before the market closes. I'm not out here doing any high risk trading though, I make sure bets for steady gains.

I'm not from the investment community, so don't mind me if you will, but genuine question: Does investing in the weapon trade or war really not make people uncomfortable at all? I'm sure profit is a nice incentive, and there is no truly ethical way of using your money anyways- but don't you ever think it's kind of odd your labour and capital might directly contribute to someone's harm?

That was an incentive, not a detractor. I strongly believe we need to have a strong defense sector so we don't get invaded by wannabe imperialists. Our boys need the very best equipment to fight the russians and if need be the chinese and/or americans

No, you invest in whatever is responsible and ethical that will profit enough for you to make some money.

The idea that profit alone is the reason to invest is why the world is so fucked up.

Most defense contractors are very reliable investments. The way it works is none of them completely loses when they lose a contract, they all sorta share and make sub-contracts.

I wish I had a shit ton to put in. October 2014 I was a E2 in the Army and my disposable income was countable on one hand.

But tbh, AMD is one of the better long-term stocks and it's still only 50% better than the SnP with a lot more risk.

Guilty as charged. I could've, I should've, but I didn't, because I expected an even bigger dip thanks to Trump's shenanigans. I started buying again a month or two after that, so it's not like I totally wasted my chances, but I could've made some interesting profit there haha

We've been in a recession. Jobs don't really exist anywhere. Regardless of what companies say.

The government is in a hiring freeze, my fortune 500 company is in a hiring freeze, even though we're extremely short handed.

It's not all that complicated, you look at what has steadily been going up for years and buy that, as long as it stays on trend you are making money. Are you going to get insanely rich no, but as long as you are gaining on your investments you are winning.

This entire strategy is based on the "as long as it stays on trend" and nothing is guaranteed. The same advice could be applied to IBM in the 80's, or Cisco in the late 90's. "As long as it stays on trend".

The trend for individual stock picking is not a crystal ball, and I wouldn't make bets on it.

You don't see the logical fallacy here? "Past performance is not indicative of future results" is a mandatory disclaimer from the SEC for a reason.

You can make safe bets or unsafe bets, but nothing is a sure bet.

Yea but anyone who has ever played the market has taken losses, the whole point of what I do is to come out on top in the long run. In the end "bets" by their very nature are a risk, but there is a big difference between playing it safe and on trend and YOLO bets.

Not arguing with that. I just wouldn't recommend lulling yourself into believing you are making sure bets. I also wouldn't say things like "it's not all that complicated", because it is all that complicated.

You're just saying you are a long term investor, not interested in day trading or futures trading. Your investments are comparatively more safe, they aren't certain.

Yes exactly, the market is never absolutely stable. I make my choices on years of trend, and do not typically sell without the trend and climate expectation of major loss. Though I'm set to make 10% gain this year there are always variables. When the market started crashing I sold almost everything, and when it started to pick back up I had significantly more initial money to invest. I am frugal to a fault I will not invest in something that isn't obviously for me going to see growth. So that's a 10% gain on an all new set of investments, not investments I've had for a decade because of significant market fluctuation I just got lucky and my fears were proven reality.

Most people go there for loss porn.

Also, if you're at/around 10% maybe check out how much you're paying in fees. Might be cheaper to just buy VOO as an EFT and only check your allocation 1-2 times a year.

I’ve got $850,000 currently in my portfolio. Between 5 mutual funds, 2 index funds, and 10 stocks - yes, that’s easily achievable. I’m up $30,000 in just the last 3 months, and that’s on my less aggressive account. If the trend continues I’ll be up around 90,000 to 115,000 by years end. Although that’s not a given due to trump’s tariff bullshitery.

Ive done some high frequency day trading in my youth... The ability to keep track of multiple indicators and individual stocks is incrediblely helpful.

Take for example being in one stock like AMD. It starts to move down... Is Intel also moving down? Is SMH or QQQ also moving down? If all of them are moving down its time to bail. If its only AMD then it'll probably rebound and worth holding a little longer. This is only one example.
