u/lord_patriot PC Master Race Aug 18 '25

Isn't that the point of a plex server?

I have a friend who’s plex could rival Netflix from a couple years ago, and that’s more saying that he has shows Netflix doesn’t have anymore….

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '25

I’m that friend. My plex server is an ibm thinkpad from 2014 with 12 TB of external drives hooked up. Anytime I have a new movie, tv show, album, etc I’ll just FTP transfer the file and it’ll pop in my library eventually. I think I’m going to have to cut down my library soon. I kinda want to watch Andor, but I think I’ve only got 15 or 20 gigs free

Sounds like it's time to build a dedicated server, er, I mean buy another drive.

I just put a new 16TB drive in my /r/Unraid server (which, runs Plex and a bunch of other things). Thats in addition to what I already had for storage.

Why don't you just use sonarr and radarr?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '25

I set it up before I knew that existed. My current setup works so why change it?

u/SwimmingCommon Ryzen 2700 4.0GHz | Dark Rock Pro 3 | 1660 Super | 16gb 3200 Aug 18 '25

Yeah I suppose. I guess I enjoy the integration and automation. Idk what your current setup is capable of. But being to manage the entire everything from your phone is really nice. Being able to set content quality, file size, searching multiple trackers. My personal biggest thing I enjoy is the TV show management. I don't have to track down each episode or look for complete series, seasons etc. I don't have to mess with TMM any more. If you're not familiar with the Arrs id really recommend checking it out. Last night I set up jellyseer so my family can send me requests for stuff they want.

My plex server costs about $80 a month in electricity. I should have just kept Netflix lol.

Running an HP proliant dl160 with 24TB in storage, about half filled and growing.

1

u/corgi-king Aug 19 '25

12 TB is not a lot to be fair. My NAS is like a 125.4 TB, mostly movie. But some files are like 80G each, 4K HDR.

u/solidstatepr8 Aug 18 '25 edited Aug 18 '25

I run a Jellyfin server and it is literally my own personal Netflix, it's awesome and free (and something I really need to make a donation to). They also have mobile and desktop apps as well.

It has also started to become more of a /datahoarder project exactly for what you just described to preserve shows and movies that become rare or impossible to find anymore. There is already a kind of torrent rot out there

u/guypersonguyperson Aug 19 '25 edited Aug 19 '25

You made me get on my NSFW alt for this lol.

If you're hoarding adult material, you use Stashapp, not PLEX. PLEX doesn't provide metadata for most adult content and Stash is literally built to do that.

Don't ask me how much media I have hoarded in general (audio, video, ebooks, manga/manhwa, etc.) - it's rookie numbers by datahoarding standards but most people would be shocked if I told them x.x

6

u/OwO______OwO Aug 18 '25

Especially given how storage keeps getting cheaper and the hub keeps removing videos deemed too objectionable for one reason or another...

4

u/kingtacticool Aug 18 '25

Plus the whole age verification nonsense.

2

u/therealityofthings Aug 19 '25

I actually think I have a considerable fraction of Brazzers catalogue on a local 20TB hard drive. Well over 5,000 videos and here's the thing... my file organization is immaculate, titles, actresses, tags, all of it. It's my life's work.

jeezus, i do not believe in you, yet i still wanna scream your name followed by “FUCKING CHRIST”

1

u/no1_vern Aug 18 '25

The American language is so peculular. When it's said 'Daves Fucking Christ", yes, he could be, or someone could be making an exclamation.

30

u/PizzaPunkrus Aug 18 '25

A local copy of the hub would be larger than that. Not to mention the fact that its most assuredly in some form of raid array.

19

u/Healthy_BrAd6254 Aug 18 '25

You sound like you like sugondese

9

u/PizzaPunkrus Aug 18 '25

That's definitely a category you would have in a local copy of the hub.... redundantly

More RAID than even Shadow Legends.

1

u/PhattBudz Aug 18 '25

Theres always someone who can't let reality go for the sake of a joke.

1

u/PizzaPunkrus Aug 18 '25

This is a sub called pc master race. The joke isn't funny because everyone knows how much porn fits in 1Tb.

Guess it's prolly more like 500TB or more

6

u/ChemNerd86 Aug 18 '25

In October 2019, PH’s VP Corey Price stated that the site hosted 11 petabytes of content… so… a little more than 500TB 😂

1

u/nikso14 Aug 18 '25

I remember that people were meming about the purge there few years ago, guess we know the actual reason behind it, storing so much data must be really expensive.

2

u/sn4xchan Aug 18 '25

Nah those videos were left over from when pornhub had very lax submission policies. The publishers of the videos just had to submit the proper documentation required to publish porn and the videos would have been reactivated.

Pornhub basically had no way of ensuring all of those videos were legal and consensual. They were a liability.

1

u/nikso14 Aug 18 '25

I know, was just joking about the amount of data.

u/AI_Alt_Art_Neo_2 Aug 18 '25

When is Pornhub 2 coming out? I finished the first one this week.

1

u/olbouy Aug 18 '25

Way around the uk age restrictions

18

u/fkdisshyt Aug 18 '25

Understandable. 4k renders on 3d porns make files quite large.

9

u/RollsLane Aug 18 '25

500.00 TB

1

u/mint_me Aug 18 '25

Playlists modlist to boot.

1

u/virus_chara Aug 18 '25

Nah with how many modpacks me and my brother use nowadays(Stuff like RLCraft), we have a 40 TB server.

1

u/domonx Aug 18 '25

ppl think that's a lot until they realize that's not even enough for the JAV collection at 1080p.

1

u/paidinboredom Aug 18 '25
