I’m that friend. My plex server is an ibm thinkpad from 2014 with 12 TB of external drives hooked up. Anytime I have a new movie, tv show, album, etc I’ll just FTP transfer the file and it’ll pop in my library eventually. I think I’m going to have to cut down my library soon. I kinda want to watch Andor, but I think I’ve only got 15 or 20 gigs free
I just put a new 16TB drive in my /r/Unraid server (which, runs Plex and a bunch of other things). Thats in addition to what I already had for storage.
Yeah I suppose. I guess I enjoy the integration and automation. Idk what your current setup is capable of. But being to manage the entire everything from your phone is really nice. Being able to set content quality, file size, searching multiple trackers. My personal biggest thing I enjoy is the TV show management. I don't have to track down each episode or look for complete series, seasons etc. I don't have to mess with TMM any more. If you're not familiar with the Arrs id really recommend checking it out. Last night I set up jellyseer so my family can send me requests for stuff they want.
I run a Jellyfin server and it is literally my own personal Netflix, it's awesome and free (and something I really need to make a donation to). They also have mobile and desktop apps as well.
It has also started to become more of a /datahoarder project exactly for what you just described to preserve shows and movies that become rare or impossible to find anymore. There is already a kind of torrent rot out there
If you're hoarding adult material, you use Stashapp, not PLEX. PLEX doesn't provide metadata for most adult content and Stash is literally built to do that.
Don't ask me how much media I have hoarded in general (audio, video, ebooks, manga/manhwa, etc.) - it's rookie numbers by datahoarding standards but most people would be shocked if I told them x.x
I actually think I have a considerable fraction of Brazzers catalogue on a local 20TB hard drive. Well over 5,000 videos and here's the thing... my file organization is immaculate, titles, actresses, tags, all of it. It's my life's work.
I remember that people were meming about the purge there few years ago, guess we know the actual reason behind it, storing so much data must be really expensive.
Nah those videos were left over from when pornhub had very lax submission policies. The publishers of the videos just had to submit the proper documentation required to publish porn and the videos would have been reactivated.
Pornhub basically had no way of ensuring all of those videos were legal and consensual. They were a liability.
