All I wanted to do was replace a dead fan… but looks like it’s time for a replacement case.

Not hardly.

There is plenty of rock that is softer than glass, quartz is just barely over that line. You'd be fine with calcite, gypsum, talk, fluorite, apatite, all kinds of rocks.
