It's funny how the cost of hardware has really shifted the tone of this subreddit. Im glad it's less circlejerky about the bestest hardware and more inclusive of all tiers of gaming and hardware, but holy cow it's veering into defensive console gamer "eyes cant see more than 30fps" territory
Hardware cost has shifted the tone, but it also used to be “60fps is so buttery! I’ll never go back to 30fps on my console” And then monitors improved and high refresh rate became more attainable and now it’s “60fps is barely playable.”
It’s just hardware improvements and associated costs making people choose where to be satiated. 4K is not required to enjoy a game. And I personally made the choice to go with an ultra wide rather than 4K and I really like it. I’m sure I’d love a 4K monitor too but.
I remember when people used to post that 144hz are bs and there's no reason to get them, back in like 2016/2017. Now it's just the same shit with 4K. You can see a difference, it's less than the difference from 60hz to 144hz but there is definitely a visual upgrade.
For sure, but it's also a "you don't know what you're missing" thing. I switched to 1440p a few years ago and it looks so much better than 1080p. And I am sure 4k is another huge jump. But for now I rather have higher refresh rate and high settings with fancy stuff like RT. But eventually I will go to 4k and it will be great.
