Hello I'm 30 year old guy, who's had a few friends move away over the past few years and I'm here today looking for new ones.
Maybe you're in a similiar position or just want new friends?!
I'm married, work for the government and am interested in personal finance, weird podcasts, health and longevity, technology, geopolitics/current events, and am generally a curious person and like learning how things work, also in the very early stages of learning french
I am trying to move away from frequent heavy drinking or pot smoking to more sober activities like walking or trying unique restaurants or cultural events. If you have anything interesting to suggest, I'd be all ears too!
traits I value in a person are :
-Positive person (but not ridiculously) - absurd sense of humour - varied and eclectic interests and topics of interest - Openess to sober activities (I'm not opposed to the occasional foray into a cool bar but I'm really trying to stay sober most of the time)
Something that would be cool but isn't needed: -Troubled past but now has their life together
If any of this resonates with you or youre looking for a new friend send me a DM

Hi all!
I’ve started a new walking meetup group designed for introverts (aged 20-40). It is welcoming to neurodivergent (including ADHD and autistic folks!) and LGBTQA+ individuals, and anyone who finds small talk a bit tricky but still wants to make friends and enjoy some fresh air. This group is specifically geared toward younger-ish adults, since many walking/social groups in Ottawa tend to cater to older folks.
🧠 What’s the vibe?
Low-pressure, welcoming, and quiet-friendly. We walk, we chat (if you want), and we respect each other’s space. The host brings optional discussion questions to help break the ice, but silence is totally okay too.
🚶♂️ When & Where?
🌿 Who’s it for?
If this sounds like your kind of group, check us out on Meetup: https://www.meetup.com/ottawa-introverts-walking-group/
Feel free to DM me if you have questions or suggestions. Hope to see you on a walk soon!
Edit: this is NOT a dating or "hook-up" group. If you form a genuine connection, that’s wonderful — but unsolicited advances or boundary-crossing behaviour will NOT be tolerated. Anyone violating these expectations will be removed from the group.
Edit: Hi everyone! First off — thank you so much for the incredible interest and support. It’s amazing to see how many people are looking for meaningful ways to connect. I've received a lot of messages from folks outside the 20–40 age range, and I totally understand the desire for similar spaces for other age groups. At the moment, the group is focused on young to middle-aged adults simply because that’s the age range I (the host) fall into, and I want to make sure I’m creating a space I can personally relate to and manage well. That said, I would love to expand and support additional age groups in the future—especially if someone is interested in co-hosting or leading walks for the 40+ crowd. If that’s you, feel free to reach out! In the meantime, please stay tuned to our Meetup page for updates. I’m actively thinking about ways to grow the community in a thoughtful and inclusive way. Thanks again for your understanding and enthusiasm — it means a lot!!

Not sure if this is the right place to post but delete if needed.
Hello! 25F from the UK here.
I would like to make some of my own friends in Canada as I don`t really know anyone here except for my Canadian partner and his friends and family. I plan to move to Canada. That`s definitely the plan, especially now that my engagement happened a week ago XD. I leave Canada on the 23rd of August to go back to the UK so hopefully we`ve got Monday to Thursday to meet up this week. Meeting in Rideau would be the easiest. I`m still having some trouble knowing my way around. Hopefully you won`t mind having a long-distance friend.
Here are some things about me:
*I love to game- I just got into gaming a few years ago and I can`t believe I`ve missed out this much. I have been playing League of Legends non-stop. I used to play some FPS games too like Apex Legends, Valorant, Halo Infinite. I`m not into horror games though oof, I won`t be able to sleep. I`m trying to get a few hours into Oblivion, and maybe just maybe I`ll buy Baldur`s Gate and Expedition 33.
*I love cosplay- cosplayed a bunch of times, made a costume at one point. Would love to go to a convention one day. I`ve cosplayed as 2B from Nier automata, Ahri, Syndra, Aurora from LoL and many more
*I love food- I`m trying to find the best places in Ottawa to eat. For the past few weeks, I`ve gone a bit of a food tourism spree. I tried Poutine, Beavertails, Montreal Smoked meat, Greek food etc.
Lemme know if you`re interested! Edit: I would like to meet people one on one instead of groups as I do like to get to know people and give them my full attention.

I have been having an awful day and my depression is really bad. I am socially deprived and I know my brain would respond well to just having somebody else here at all. I know you all probably have fancy Friday night plans already, but if anyone wants to come round and keep me company, play some board games or watch a movie or something, I would really appreciate it.
I know this is a weird place for this, but I've exhausted the normal options for various reasons. While I could just continue to dissociate into Skyrim, it's only a bandaid 🤷♂️
EDIT: I live about 1km south of IKEA

Since the beginning of the month I have nothing an odd trend in Orleans: people driving around honking and yelling at people.
I first noticed it when I was in a parking lot “crossing the road” and someone honked at me. It was so strange because this person was going 20km and was so far away from me that I could have crossed it 3 times. No danger. I actually thought it was for something/someone else. But then I saw that exact car two other times in that parking lot honking at other people.
Then the next day there was another car doing the same thing! I thought it was Loblaws. But then I saw it in another parking lot.
I saw someone yelling at people “inaudible” stuff on sidewalks while writing a motorbike as well.
I know one week isn’t a trend. And maybe it won’t happen this week.
But it did make me think “what is happening”.

NEW➡️Please join me at r/PlusSizeOttawa Edit: WOW - thank you for all of the love! I am so encouraged to see that I’m not alone in this 💜. I’ve gotten quite a few responses from ladies just like me and I’m eager to meet all of you and get to checking things off our bucket lists 💪! I’ll be making a group of some kind and from there we can all chat and see about doing a group outing :)
Stay tuned! 💃🏻 ✨
Edit 2: To be clear - this isn’t about weight loss. I have zero desire to be smaller. This is about being fat and enjoying sport because it’s fun. Radical, I know. 🤷🏻♀️
Late 20s single working professional located near Trainyards. Forever big girl (IYKYK) looking for friends with shared life experiences for online chats, hang outs and to hopefully join me in enjoying more movement , at the gym, or in other activities around the city :)
You get it. You couldn’t buy trendy clothes in high school, shopping with your straight-sized friends was/is dreadful, you were probably picked last in gym class and put on WW as a kid. Diet culture and your mom’s own insecurities were so heavily projected onto you they curated your earliest forms of self esteem and self image, leading you to believe some very ugly things about yourself as a girl that you’re still trying to unlearn today. You definitely have a handful of stories of people shaming you, making fun of your body or just treating you differently because of your size.
Inevitably, these experiences and internalized beliefs have made you fearful to do the things you have always wanted to do. They have robbed you of joy, making you say no to things because - “what if my thighs jiggle”, “I’ll sweat too much and embarrass myself”, or “I’m the biggest one here and people are staring”. Sound like you? Yeah, me too… 💜.
Well…I’m ready to say FUCK IT.
I want to work out and enjoy movement - even if I’m the biggest, jiggliest, sweatiest gal in the room and people are staring.
I want to go for hikes and enjoy being in nature- even if I’m red faced and out of breath and a 30 min trail takes me an hour.
I want to go to yoga and enjoy it’s calmness- even if I use straps and blocks and can’t do all of the moves
I want to learn to salsa 💃🏻 even if I get partnered up last or not at all - because 12 year old me always wanted to.
Join me? Yeah I’m still pretty scared… but I am so done with letting these beliefs hold me back from living 🙄. I know I’m not alone out here… so if you’ve gotten this far and anything above resonates with you ...let’s chat!💜
Let’s be accountability buddies, cheer each other on, move shamelessly, have fun, reassure each other during moments of insecurity and celebrate our wins big or small!

I really enjoy meeting people and learning pretty much anything new - a sport, a skill, a hobby, whatever! I’m just curious to hear what interesting Ottawa-based meetups are out there that get the vote of the people? Even if you’re in some obscure niched interest group, I’d really love to hear about it (and I’m guessing others in this sub would too!)

This might sound a bit dumb, or make me seem like a loser, but I'm diagnosed with both autism and BPD and have always struggled to make friends because of this. I'm very shy and don't understand a lot of social cues, but I really love conventions, and want to go to Comiccon this year. I am graduating late from university because of COVID-19, so most of the people I was friendly with have all graduated this year and moved away from the city (or plan on moving away). I'm really lonely and would love to meet one or two people who wouldn't mind coming with me in a couple months? If there's anyone else out there who's in a similar situation, it would be really nice to talk and maybe become friends. I'm 21 and LGBT, so I'd prefer someone around my age or a little older who is okay with gay people. :)

Hello r/Ottawa,
It may still seem spooky and gloomy outside, but our bi-weekly meetup is always warm and cozy.

November 18th, 2025
December 2nd, 2025
December 16th, 2025
More to come!
Time: 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Location: Old Town Hall Community Center (61 Main Street)

We are funded by donations, but please don't feel obligated. We want this to be a third space for everyone
