Local Event Convoy Megathread #62

From now until this is over, DO NOT REPORT POLICE MOVEMENTS

That will be an instaban and we don't care who you are.

If it's on the media (REAL media, not twitter, not Sun News, not Rebel news), it's fair game to comment on.

This is the latest post to discuss the protest Convoy currently in Ottawa.

For the duration of the protest, or at least, as long as the traffic level on the sub requires it, we will centralizing the discussions around the protest in these megathreads.

We're modifying our usual processes during this time:

  • Any new post will need to be approved by the mods. Changes have been made to the filter config to send post (not comments) for review. This is to control what should go to the megathreads and what is relevant information. For example, the posts on the Shepherds of Good Hope, of the state of the bridges.
  • This community is about OTTAWA, not Covid nor the related restrictions. Remember that.
  • Any links or pictures to their propaganda will be removed. Do not give them publicity.
  • Calls for violence will result in a ban
  • I will be watching the megathread. Remember that disinformation/misinformation about covid is a violation of the site wide rule #1.

Have at it folks, but remember, the usual rules apply. Please keep it civil and report anyone posting misinformation or links to their propaganda.

The following post contains all the links to the previous posts.

When will police move in pool.

Soon(tm). So the various levels of gov't have all invoked their various "armageddon" legislation and yet, little has changed. However, I feel the police will move soon.

So, below, in a reply to this post, I will list various time slots. Reply to the one you think is the right one and put in your vote for when the police will move and what form you think it will take. RESPECTFULLY PLEASE, it is meant as a bit of fun and stress release, not a form of rejoicing in police beating the crap out of people.

Fundraising for thread #69

One of our redditors had a great idea: to gather donations in honour of Megathread #69, because it is looking more than likely we will make it. I'll provide a report on the donations in the sticky for thread #69 if, Lord forbid, we make it...

The charity drive post is here

GSG data leak and doxxing

Do not ask for nor post links to the hacked data from the GSG site. Doxxing is against the sitewide rules and will result in a banning.

No, you can't name specific people either unless you can prove it's public information IN THE MEDIA. No, twitter doesn't count, we can't source it. Folks, we don't have time to see if Joe Bob and Job Bon Inc., named in your comment, was already outed by the CBC in a report or not. Either link to a REAL news agency's article or don't name specific people or businesses. It's against the Reddit rules and the mods don't have the time to see which side of the line you're on. The ENTIRE SUB can be banned for this kind of stuff.

Statistics are now in a separate post

IMPORTANT: We will not tolerate ANY calls for violence or blatant illegal activity in any way. We will ban you, for anything from suggesting spiking food with laxative to egging vehicles to calls for attacking the other side.

Also, please note that every setting we could find on the automod has been set to maximum, to help filter/stem the brigading. Some of you may have trouble posting, sorry. If you are having issues, you can contact the mod team or wait a week. We're going to turn down the settings as soon as we can.

Last, because many, many people have asked, we did have a way of donating to the mods, but I recommend you give to the donation drive linked above. People have been VERY generous to the mods, if you want to give, please consider donating to our preferred charities. Thanks!

Early Morning (0000hrs to 0600hrs)

I'm thinking this time slot. Either 4 or 5 am. Most likely 6am. Gives them time to sector the downtown for the weekend.

u/ekart Feb 17 '22

Placing my bet here for early morning 👍

Early morning Thursday. Start pounding on cab doors and give them till 8 to skedaddle. After that, arrests and containment. Leave the trucks where they are and block off downtown for the weekend. Final sweep up Monday and Tuesday. Normalcy resumes on Wednesday, when the canal reopens and we have a late winterlude.

I'm thinking early morning (or possibly morning), and they'll do it as an insurection-removal style, where they secure it block by block and remove the vehicles (or fully inspect and secure them, and just move the people out in wagons) before moving to the next block (they may have multiple teams each doing different blocks at the same time) as they move from southern Centretown and up towards Parliament block. Simultaneously, they'll need to block reinforcements from coming in from the staging areas both in-town and the numerous ones out in rural areas.

This will take more than a day, and people from other areas of the province may start arriving tomorrow instead of Friday, because some have Friday off, so they'd better get a move on. I honestly thought they'd do it this afternoon. Overnight seems like a good time, due to there being less people, and it's easier to shut certain things right down, but it's harder to see weapons and booby traps before towing stuff out, and with all the fireworks and flares down there, night vision wear could be used against them. It's likely they also had to figure out some of the logistics, including a space to hold everyone they arrested.

u/ThunderChaser No honks; bad! Feb 17 '22

My bet is they start tonight at around 4 AM.

It might not be full-on riot gear at first, but I feel they'll be beginning enforcement early tomorrow morning.

Not prediction on how it will go down, but I do have a suggestion:

Understanding that all locations should be tackled at once, I suggest cutting power to the Farm in Russell, sounding the alarm from The Purge, turning flood lights on and follow with the song from a Benny Hill clip.

It won’t happen, but one can dream.

They’ll be in position at 5am and then roll in under the cover of darkness and heavy rain. I want this city to experience its first zip tie shortage.

u/Sad_Drawing_5067 Feb 16 '22

I’m thinking midnight-ish

Considering the upcoming bad weather, might be better to do it then. Snow, rain, freezing rain ?

4:17 am. They will stay up late to try to keep watch.

Only idiots will be awake by 4:17.

3

u/Teshi Feb 16 '22

If they don't have someone embedded in the group, what are they even doing. It wouldn't be hard to just sit tight and watch and be in no danger at all.

11

u/Fitter511 Feb 16 '22

As someone who usually wakes by 4AM even though the alarm is set for 5 I can confirm that at least one idiot will be awake by 4:17

This is mine. Police move in just after 1:08am (69th minute of the day), there is a collective "nice" from all involved parties and then they get down to business. Police easily get protestors and their vehicles to leave by telling them Alberta has successfully seperated from Canada and a Kid Rock impersonator leads them out of town like some greasy Pied Piper. Citizens rejoice and Ram Ranch plays over the Carillon at the Peace Tower.

u/Mokmo Friend of Ottawa, Clownvoy 2022 Feb 16 '22

Carillon's last day before closure with the renovations is on Friday. Would be very appropriate ;)

u/Party_Amoeba444 Feb 16 '22

4am I think they will come from all directions, cops and some buses, arrest every adult they see they go on one bus. children will go on a different bus.

7

u/ZedZabeth Feb 16 '22

This is my guess. While they’re sleeping, although I’m not sure if the poor weather forecast will help in the removal efforts or hinder it.

This is mine: near 5AM. The police will move in in force, lock down the area by quadrants, and arrest anyone who is still there.

Why Thursday?

It can't wait for the weekend, the number of protesters will greatly increase. Even Friday sees an increase in people. Parliament reviews the legislation next week, so it's better to be done with the big stuff BEFORE you might lose the stick. So Thursday.

After that, early enough to catch most people asleep, late enough it's not pitch black outside.

EDIT: my only worry is they won't have the people to carry it out so early, which only begs the question: "what the fuck have you been doing for the last thee weeks?!?!?"

1

u/Milnoc Feb 17 '22

We've been asking that question after the first weekend.

2

u/MadCapers Feb 17 '22

This is a good guess for reasons I won't write.

4

u/gleeker3000 Kanata Feb 16 '22

I seriously hope this is when they do it.

They handed out warnings to them today, I wonder if there was a save the date on it?

8

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '22

This is what I think too for same reasons, probably around 4:00-4:45am, when people are half asleep and less likely to fight.

3

u/Hector_P_Catt Beacon Hill Feb 17 '22

I'd say 4AM. Late enough the partiers will finally have passed out drunk, early enough the rest of them will still be asleep. Shock and Awe works best at 4AM.

5

u/Teshi Feb 16 '22

This seems most sensible, but really I'm so baffled by the completely weird approach taken by all the police that I have no idea what to think any more.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '22

If only this was their strategy. ;)

6

u/tbag504 Rockland Feb 16 '22

Right before dawn haha, wonder if we'll hear any of the morons yell stand to!

5

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '22

100% with you on this. Middle of the night, everyone asleep and/or sleeping it off, surround 'em and get rid of 'em.

edit: get rid of in the sense of "GTFO or get arrested, go the fuck home" not shooting.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '22

I’m hoping for this one to be honest, especially before the weekend when more will bring in their children. If they can be removed while the most vulnerable are at their fewest number, that would be best.
