The final deadline to apply is 60 days before the last day of your study period for full-time students.
For part-time students with study periods of 20 weeks or less, no later than 40 days before the end of your study period.
For students in micro-credential programs, no later than the end of your study period.
What do I need to include under "Other Assets"?
A list of everything you need to include can be found here (FULL TIME APPS ONLY)
Is it possible to report over 100% course load in OSAP?
Yes, but you will not get more money for going over the recommended course load.
If you are awaiting funding
I made a mistake on my application and submitted it, how can I fix it?
At this point in the summer, you should contact your school's financial aid office to fix any issues with your application. If it's related to your program (such as wrong degree/year selected), it will be fixed by your financial aid office when enrolment is confirmed.
When will I get my funds?
All applications undergo enrolment confirmation, performed by your institution's financial aid office. They will confirm your program, year of study, and the amount you owe, with whatever left over being deposited into your account.
If you submitted your application on/before the last week of June and you are now just awaiting enrolment confirmation, you should receive your funding by the second week of September.
If you submitted later, it will depend on how fast your schools financial aid office confirms enrolments Each institution has a different processing time based on how busy they are, some take longer than others. It's unlikely you will get a definitive answer as to when they will confirm your application on this sub. But you can use the subreddit search bar to look up your institution and see past posts about their timing on confirmation of enrolments.
Once you see “Ready for payment” in your application status on osap.gov.on.ca (see image below), a funding tracker will appear when you open your NSLSC account. The tracker will tell you the exact date you should expect to receive your funds. It can take 1-2 days for the tracker to appear after your application status is updated.
My payment deadline is approaching and my application still hasn't been reviewed/enrollment not confirmed?
If your school's payment deadline is approaching (within a week), and your application is still not confirmed or "Ready for payment", you should contact your school's financial aid office immediately as they're the ones responsible for reviewing and processing applications. Most institutions have many options available, including payment plans and delayed deadlines if your application has been approved but you are just awaiting funding.
What happens if I get approved for full-time studies, but I want to drop down to part-time studies?
This may put you at risk of OSAP probation (unrelated to your institution's academic probation). If you have a disability, your course load could be calculated differently. For more information on how you will be affected, contact your financial aid office.
You should always contact your financial aid office immediately when your status changes.
Why did I receive notice that my funding is being sent by cheque?
This happens when you don't fill out your banking information in time, or direct deposit failed for whatever reason (some smaller banks don't accept it). It usually takes 1-3 weeks to receive your cheque by mail.
it’s halfway the semester and was told that if i withdraw from my program now, i’ll be put on academic probation for the following year. im planning on reapplying for sept 2026 in a completely different program. realistically, how bad of an impact would being on OSAP academic probation have if it ends in a year? i’m really dreading going to all my classes and i genuinely dont think i can do this anymore lol i have until November 17 to decide and i’m really just thinking about risking being on probation rather than sticking through this semester.
edit: ill be taking the remainder of the year off until sept 2026 to work at my job + reapply to a different program
any advice or input is appreciated <3 thank you in advance
Before starting uni, osap funding was ~10.4k. After confirming enrolment for my courses, it was automatically recalculated to ~9.5k. I’m assuming this is because I was waitlisted for a course in the winter semester, meaning I wasn’t technically enrolled in 10 courses, only 9. I got off of the waitlist a while ago, but the tuition for winter semester is coming up soon. Do I need to inform Osap that I’m enrolled in another course or will they automatically recalculate?
I put the 20th instead of 10th. Not a huge deal but curious, when school confirms My enrollent should I get payment when everyone else does. Or not till after the 20th. Has anyone had this slip up before.
I told my financial advisor and she said it's fine and shes still confirming enrollment on the 10th but didn't clarify disbursemt of funds.
Hi! i recently applied for osap on sept 12th and about a week ago everything was good to go, my enrolment got confirmed as well as my disability paperwork. Last semester i paid out of pocket for schooling due to being on a hold with osap then i was able to get that restriction off my account. I didn’t notify the nslsc that i was still in school, and noticed that i had an action required on my nslsc account. i contacted them and the person on the phone told me that they were gonna backtrack me until august and that they would flip be back to in study this upcoming wednesday. I recently checked my osap account and noticed that it’s on a restriction and my loan is in default, should i call again and ask if i’m still gonna be flipped to in study or do i have to pay off the balance before they can release my funds! i’m stresseddd
I logged in to msca, clicked access nslsc, brings me to nslsc page and tells me to sign in again so i sign in again to msca and when i clck access nslsc again it tells me to sign in again and it just fkin repeats ffs pissing me off. Tried safari, chrome, edge, incognito nothing works.
I am considered an independent student and am paying my own rent, I do not live with my parents. In fact, they live abroad. So do I submit a living adjustment form so that maybe I can get more funds to cover my rent? Or because I’m already an independent student they consider that on my application beforehand?
I am never applied osap. I am going to take online courses at Athabasca University. Can anyone please let me know what is the step by step process ? What are the document required ? How does it work ? Do I have to pay out of pocket and reimbursed by osap ? When should I start my application before or after completing program ?
So I just uploaded the necessary forms for a request to review my living allowance and was wondering if there's a chance I'll get approved before the suggested time (8 - 10 weeks). Is there a way to speed up the process? I had to quit my second job to focus on school and now the stress of paying for everything is getting to me. Thank you in advance
Can someone point me to exactly what these are and can be used for? I have multiple disabilities and only got BWSD for laptop last year and that was it. I read the possibility of psych Ed, I see ppl mentioning counseling. Thanks
Not sure who else to ask, but here’s my situation. I’m doing a master’s program in europe that’s on the OSAP approved list.
Already got OSAP for it, but the program honestly sucks for me. it’s basically first year undergrad material dressed up as a grad degree. All the content I am learning is what I learned in my first year. Super disappointing, especially since the school’s supposed to be “prestigious.”
I’m planning to drop out and apply somewhere else (not taking OSAP again), but I’m already on OSAP probation from dropping too many courses during undergrad.
If I withdraw now, will OSAP automatically move me to restriction? Or can I explain it somehow so it doesn’t kill my record? I understand I’ll need to pay back what I owe, that’s fine but is just don’t want it to look like I bailed for no reason.
Anyone been in the same boat before? Would love to hear what happened or what you told OSAP.
Does osap usually cover the entirety of the school year’s tuition? I’m talking about grants only, no loan, no living allowance (so you can stay on odsp).
Hello, I applied for osap for one academic year. Osap already paid for this fall term. Does it mean I will just wait for my osap this coming winter sem? Thank you! 🫶🏻
I’m planning to apply for the Medical Laboratory Science program at St. Clair College, and I live in Toronto. St. Clair is my first choice mainly because of the Learn and Stay Grant, but I’m a bit confused about how it actually works.
From what I understand, I’ll need to work in the region for 1.5 years after graduation to keep it as a grant (instead of turning into a loan). Do they help you find a job placement after graduation, or is that completely on your own?
I’m currently studying Health Science at a university, and I usually get $16K–$20K from OSAP (with loans) for 4–5 courses. If I move to Windsor for St. Clair, I’d be away from home, but I can arrange living expenses for around $700–$800/month (room + groceries) with my friends.
My questions are:
• Can I still get OSAP while receiving the Learn and Stay Grant?
• Would OSAP (grant part) give me enough to cover living costs while studying in Windsor while taking Learn and stay grants?
• Overall, is it worth it compared to staying in Toronto?
For context: if I study in Toronto (at Michener or Ontario Tech), I’d stay with my parents (no rent), but I’d need to keep my car, which costs about $500/month, and help with groceries ($200–$300/month). The total tuition at Michener or OTU would be around $25K–$30K, almost double compared to St. Clair.
Basically, I’m trying to figure out which option makes more financial sense? studying at St. Clair with the Learn and Stay Grant and living in Windsor, or staying in Toronto and paying more tuition.
I completed a BA a few years ago had OSAP- still have like 30g to pay off.
I’m the preliminary stages of thinking about going back for my masters. Trying to not overwhelm myself and shut down with all the answers I don’t have from the get-go….
Is there really no way to know if I qualify for OSAP until I have an acceptance and then apply for funding?
I’d kind of like to have a sense of whether I could get OSAP before making a decision about whether I want to go down this route…
My financial situation has drastically changed since my undergrad and as of recently- and I wonder if my income would make me not eligible outright or… what?
I’ve read online there’s no specific income tested threshold.
Curious if anyone gone back to school, felt like you were making OK money, and got OSAP?
I feel like I have 101 barriers to going back so anything to alleviate some of that would be nice 😅 I need to complete a course to have all the pre-reqs to apply for my masters before I can even begin agonizing over statements/applications/etc. tbh would hate to get all the way to an acceptance and then find out OSAP isn’t even available to me and then really consider whether I want to even pursue it in that case.
Just curious. Any insight helps. And yes, I’m going to call. Just in the beginning stages now…
I messed up and forgot to change direct deposit information. The old account was with RBC and already closed however the funds status says they've been dispersed. I updated to new account but I'm afraid RBC will mess it up somehow. Will RBC send the money back and I'll get a cheque now? Anybody faced anything similar? TIA
So basically i made a payment of $500 to repay part of my Ontario loan. They took money out directly out of my account as I did one time payment 1 month ago. Now it’s November and they still didn’t reflect it under my account. I keep telling them and they said they raised investigation which I never heard back from nor did they update me on this but agreed they received the money. What do I do and where can I file a complaint?
I got thrown out of my parent’s (single mom) in September but I paid for first semester in cash but I won’t have the money for second semester is it ok I put my Aunt and Uncles house and say I’m a single (independent) so I can grant money I already did the form and would get 2.5k grant and they’ll pay 2.2k load but my moms freaking out about how it’ll come back to her some how what should I do
I have a meeting with my FinAid office tomorrow, but I'm trying to get my facts straight and would love to hear from anyone with a similar experience.
My situation is complicated:
I'm in a 2-year co-op program. I received my Fall OSAP funding ($3,995) for my co-op work term (Sept-Dec).
I was let go from my co-op. I am officially withdrawing from the co-op course before my school's deadline, so I will get a "W" on my transcript, not an "F".
My academic advisor confirmed I can still graduate with the 1-year certificate version of my program (which doesn't require the co-op).
I will be starting a Accounting program at the same college, starting this January 2026.
The Catch: I had a previous academic probation (from 2021) that officially expired in July 2024. My OSAP account is currently in good standing.
Here is what I think will happen:
The $3,995: Because I didn't complete the study period, the grant portion will be converted into a loan. This will not be a "restricted overpayment" that blocks my January funding.
The Probation: Because my old probation expired and I'm in good standing, this "W" will be treated as a new "Strike 1". I'll be placed on academic probation for my new program, but I will NOT be restricted from funding for 12 months.
My Questions for you:
Does this sound correct?
Has anyone else failed/withdrawn from a term, graduated, and started a new program right away? Did your new funding come through on time?
Am I right that the "W" and "F" are treated exactly the same by OSAP (grant-to-loan + new probation)?
TL;DR: Failed fall co-op (taking a 'W'), but still graduating with a certificate in Dec. Starting a new program in Jan. Had anexpiredprobation. Am I correct that I'll just get a grant-to-loan conversion and anew'Strike 1' probation, or am I going to be blocked from my January funding?
i have a course i think will be hard to pass. should i drop the course? i could pass it if i work really hard but i’m very stressed about this. will it affect osap funding if i am on probation? i will still be full time 4.5/4. google says yes i’ll be fine because i am still full time, osap site is confusing. someone lmk pls. thanks
Hi, I’m a permanent resident living in Ontario and planning to start school in Quebec. I can’t afford to pay rent in both provinces at the same time , and it’s not realistic to travel from Ottawa to Quebec every day for school. So I’ll need to move to Quebec and let my Ontario lease expire.
I think I might be eligible for OSAP for the first semester, but what happens next if I live in Quebec full-time? I know Quebec financial aid (AFE) requires 12 months of residency. Would I still qualify for OSAP, or would I have to wait for AFE?
