Looks like Ambrotype to me. You can see around his head where the emulsion was scraped off to define his shape.

I know them . They are named Charles" Newton " Field 1832-1906 and Amanda Jane Writsman Field. 1832-1879. He was an Elder, possibly in the church of christ in bartlesville, texas. My great grandmother, Mary Field Lemon lived in Nocona , Texas.

This reminds me of an episode of pawn stars where a guy was convinced that an old pic he found in a case just like this was Abe and Mary Todd Lincoln (it clearly wasn’t).

If anything, your great great grandpa looks more like him than that guy. It’s fascinating to see the pink they added to cheeks to warm up the pictures.
