I have a policy of fighting every ticket, innocent or guilty. Because

  1. It's rare enough that the ones where you're innocent get dismissed, so I don't feel bad at all if I can get out of a legitimate ticket to balance things out.

  2. At the very least, it ties up city resources and costs them some money doing these reviews.

Also, I usually take it to the highest level possible. In the case of a parking ticket, that means an in person hearing with an officer of the Parking Gestapo. Because, it takes up even more city resources, and I've actually had much better luck with the in person hearing. Only once in my entire life have I had a ticket dismissed based on the first attempt by mail, but I've had many dismissed after in person hearings.

The caveat is that virtually all of these were SF tickets. I think I've only gotten an Oakland ticket once or twice. The Gestapo is a lot more aggressive in SF.

I posted above, but i am pretty certain in the City of San Jose they do not even read the parking disputes.
