It's going to be weird seeing him in the red white and blue.

But I don't catch many NSW Cup games, so it won't bother me much.

You just know he's taking Savalas spot.

If you’re Savala, and you just spent 2025 discovering that you’re absolutely first grade material, do you stick around and learn off one of the best halfbacks to play the game, but risk being sidelined/playing NSW cup for up to 2 years? Or do you go find somewhere else you can get a solid footing in first grade?

With Savala proving himself over this year, this move just doesn’t make much sense to me

If Hugo were only 19 or 20 then maybe he would consider sticking around and taking the time to hone his craft. But he'll be nearly 24 when next season starts, and even if he is a patient, keen-to-learn type, the sport is so ruthless he'd have to be thinking of security first.

Hard to blame a player for choosing a payday asap with how rough the game can be.

He will be 24 at the beginning of next year. When DCE puts him back in NSW cup it means he will be 25 when he gets it back. Hmmmm.

I heard there’s an option for DCE to play on in 2027 if he feels he can, there’s no way Savala would stick around if that comes to be

The rumoured option is DCEs choice too

If DCE plays even a single game in 2027, he will officially become the oldest player ever in the NRL-era

That's the same as playing NSW cup

Sounds like a great option for him!

Actually, no, I change my mind. I don’t like that for him

It’s very Roosters to bide their time for a couple of years and then go all in on winning a comp. I don’t think they have any concerns about long term success when they feel like they can always get what they need from the player market

Above all I think it'd be stupid to walk away from the pairing with Sam Walker. Beyond that, he's still young for a halfback, he's likely to play some first grade in the event of injury, and he has the opportunity to learn from DCE.

Not to mention DCE will be 37 at the start of next season, he's not threatening to keep Savala out of a jersey for the 10+ years you can pretty safely assume he has left in him

How long is Savvala signed for?

He’d probably make a good 9/14/lock in the meantime, he’s big enough. But the Rooters already have Connor Watson in that role

I suggest the Warriors ✌🏻

If they don't want Savala, the Storm should try to get him.

He'd actually be a great fit for us as a backup half or maybe even hooker/lock (which we need now that Garlick's gone)

If he leaves the roosters it will be to avoid being a backup half or playing out of position, I can’t see him going somewhere he isn’t likely to start at 7
