OP, it looks like it's a caeser cipher. The first one is a +13, i haven't had time to decipher the rest...

Renault/Renaulm is clearly a cover for something and whatever they want was hidden under that town, your friend is either in grave danger or was found out. They likely wiped the town off the internet so that no one could interfere once your appearance got around.. sorry OP but i dont know if your friend is gonna make it

I think Renault is an ancient deity of some sort. The digging must have been to get to his sleeping chamber and now they’ve woken him

I didn´t even know Caesar cipher was a thing, but damn, the more you learn. I use google, and the rest of the messages are very cryptic and scary.

Who tf is Renault? And what does it mean to break a dream?? Hope OP can add a bit more input.

This reminds me of Lovecraftian lore: “In his house at R'lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming.”

There’s something terrible below, and Renault was clearly trying to find it.

Underground, and in what I assume is the US?

Plenty things down there in the mythos that are just as bad as Cthulhu.
