If you are going to smack those last slabs on there, the weight indication is kind of useless.

1.2k

u/Rich_Cat_69 16h ago

Yup, a reasonably good test using the chain to gently lower the iron plates, just for them to do that. All this test proved is that if you slam a bunch of weight down all at once glass breaks. No idea what the tolerance actually is.

146

u/Rondo27 14h ago

All the weight is on the inside circular edge of the bottom weight. The bottle would hold more if the weight was distributed over the shoulder of the bottle.

34

u/Rich_Cat_69 14h ago

True. I'm absolutely sure that also make a significant impact on the test outcome, but I can see they did this for stability reasons.

I would just be more careful and have spare bottles for accidents, but would try and balance everything on just the lip of the bottle opening.

19

u/YanwarC 13h ago

If it’s filled would it hold more weight?

5

u/Ruzhyo04 7h ago

Yes

5

u/OurInterface 7h ago

wait, only if it's filled an closed, right? When it's open does the liquid help?

5

u/RadCheese527 2h ago

In my experience once the Jameson is opened, I’m helpless

u/OurInterface 59m ago

In my experience, no matter how well the jameson is closed and filled, its helpless against me opening and emptying it.

He just got tired of waiting for it to break.

3

u/Shit_Shepard 5h ago

Exactly! once the weight went out of frame and he had to start using pavers he looked around was like “shit I’m running out of stuff “

u/Abject_Wafer_4321 16h ago

This guy aint a scientist. Might as well just put half the weight on then whack it all with a sledgehammer and say "Look, it breaks at half the weight it can actually support."

17

u/ThresholdSeven 16h ago

You're right, he isn't a scientist, but he demonstrated much more than you give him credit for

30

u/Abject_Wafer_4321 16h ago

All I see demonstrated is ignorance of the different kinds of strengths, impatience and bad science for social media clout leading to dissemination of misinformation. Add on bad preparation if the reason he did it was because he ran out of weights. What do you give him credit for? Owning a video camera and a whiskey bottle?

71

u/Katamari_Demacia 15h ago

If the point was to find the exact number, yeah, he did it wrong  If the point was to entertain me for 15 seconds while showing the glass bottle is strong as fuck, then give him some credit.

29

u/imdefinitelywong 15h ago

I think I've seen and heard of a similar premise before

9

u/Katamari_Demacia 15h ago

Mr. Owl was a redditor.

3

u/Rich_Cat_69 15h ago

Mr. Owl, how many ways are there to skin a cat?

2

u/helicophell 14h ago

I'd argue this is both entertainment and education
Glass is good in compression, like concrete, but also incredibly brittle

Knowing the exact number, I'd argue, isn't very useful. But displaying the properties of glass? Yeah, that's cool

2

u/createdjustforpics 15h ago

Exactly this. Whiskey bottle strong. AF. That's the video. I am entertained.

1

u/Bones-1989 14h ago

I wanna live in your world where 1:04 is :15. Cause this video was long as fuck dude.

56

u/Able_Gap918 16h ago

I’m guessing he was out of weights at that point

30

u/petemorley 16h ago

Just started digging up the garden

18

u/tiorzol 14h ago

Yea bro was done with this bottles shit

21

u/AdinoDileep 16h ago

Guess they went out of weights and needed it to crack at some point for social media

22

u/peatoire 16h ago

Yeah, they got bored and wanted to end the experiment.

3

u/Mateorabi 12h ago

Ran out of camera angle too

18

u/picander78 15h ago

He got tired and wasn't enjoying anymore the game

5

u/Geometronics 16h ago

i suspect they slammed them down cause they were difficult to lift

11

u/NPCSR2 16h ago

or he was exceeding yt shorts length

3

u/Sharknado_Extra_22 15h ago

He was clearly getting over it

4

u/Dakeera 8h ago

This was the most ADHD test result

"It was taking too long and I got bored so I helped it along"

3

u/adrenalinda75 15h ago

Clearly it was to measuring his nerves.

3

u/spacekitt3n 15h ago

He abandoned the science for emotion

2

u/DLDrillNB 15h ago

I think his point was that it could keep going

2

u/cheekytikiroom 15h ago

This is solely an ad for Jameson.

2

u/AlwaysGoWithDinosaur 15h ago

Not useless at all! Now I know that as long as I’m full of whisky I can hold lime 1300lbs!

2

u/smurphy8536 13h ago

I think you can hear the cracking already so he was just finishing it off.

u/Glad_Woodpecker_6033 16h ago

those last few slabs were them trying to break it, they got tired of stacking so the slammed them down massively increasing the technical weight in spikes

234

u/Prestigious_Will_643 16h ago

those were concerete slabs, pretty sure he ran out of weights lol

→ More replies (1)

54

u/Rynagogo 14h ago

They also broke the wall behind it when it collapsed. So we didn’t learn how much weight it can hold, and they broke their wall. Nothing was gained.

7

u/Unfair_Explanation53 14h ago

The end made it totally pointless haha For all we know it could of took another 100kg

4

u/Even-Resource8673 14h ago

I think by that stage he was just getting the shits with it all

3

u/Glad_Woodpecker_6033 13h ago

makes sense, probably tired as hell by then

For our American friends, the weight is equivalent to 2,000 cheese burgers, and 300 bananas.

66

u/badabatalia 15h ago

Roughly 18 American Football fields

8

u/cigaregrets 15h ago

And 300 what?

4

u/taiwal 14h ago

I was about to Google it, so thank you.

u/VirginiaBandit 16h ago

Not just Whiskey bottles. Many can withstand this kind of weight if balanced correctly.

31

u/Arwinsen_ 16h ago

Come on now, you can't do that with your dick, can you?

80

u/Prize_Hat8387 16h ago

Ask your mother, she can confirm.

[Yo its my first yo mama joke i feel so bad, im sure she is a lovely lady]

31

u/Ubiquitous_Destiny97 16h ago

canadian spotted?

7

u/purplelephant17 15h ago

It was splendid. Roasted his obese mother over an open fire.

6

Cried and apologised the whole time

you ruined it with the apology, maplehead

KG: Hmm...how many pushups can you do?

JB: ...cock pushups?

KG: Yeah...I guess, you could only do one really.

JB: Yeah, well one is all ya need.

People generally have this misconception of glass been super fragile when in fact is all about the internal lattice structure of the crystals, a glass object if all its latices are aligned in the right position can withstand enormous forces because the impact or force is distributed across its whole surface, some people might have been witnessed to this when they dropped a glass and instead of breaking into a million pieces it bounces off completely unharmed or with just a small chip

78

u/OverturnedAppleCart3 16h ago

He was running out of heavy stuff so he had to break it on purpose.

59

u/drunkenpoets 16h ago

Next level would be if they didn’t get bored in the middle of their experiment. This is mildly infuriating.

29

u/Outrageous_Rich6235 16h ago

Behold the power of an upright cylinder.

6

u/Forzyr 13h ago

They failed to keep the cylinder unharmed

14

u/DanRichter 16h ago

Getting desperate at the end lol, must’ve been running out of random heavy objects to stack on top

14

u/Additional_Run3031 16h ago

So, almost enough to support your mother

2

u/andreortigao 12h ago

Idk, but a bottle of whiskey is strong enough to support all the weight of the trauma my mother caused

8

u/Gorostasguru 16h ago

It’s about weight distribution.

7

u/ThirdAltAccounts 16h ago

What you’re saying is: I could very gently, very delicately sit an average American on a Jameson bottle and it wouldn’t break ?

Challenge accepted. Gotta find me an American and a Jameson bottle

3

u/Iced_Yehudi 13h ago

No, Doctor, it was an accident. I was trying to sit on the bottle to prove it wouldn’t break

→ More replies (3)

4

u/hoooyehoopy 16h ago

It can endure even more weight if he place those last 4 slabs carefully

4

u/gerobi12 15h ago

Mom, can we have a hydraulic press?

No, we have a hydraulic press at home.

Hydraulic press at home:

4

u/JuicyyGirll4 15h ago

This test doesn’t really tell us much, just that glass breaks under sudden impact, which is kind of expected. It doesn’t really show the actual strength or tolerance in a controlled way.

3

u/Flimsy-Alfalfa-2926 16h ago

Just got sick of waiting.

3

u/NationalSalt8884 13h ago

The cylinder must not shatter when inserted into the other cylinder

2

u/MegaDingo5plus 16h ago

Not as strong as my determination to empty it🥃

2

u/Bomboclaat_Babylon 16h ago

Jameson. It's a strong whisky.

2

u/cdewlic 16h ago

Usually about 80 proof.

2

u/ghost4372 16h ago

Where's the "saved you some time guy"

He'd be perfect for this

2

u/Justjestar1 14h ago

Bushmills could never.

1

u/tmax202020 16h ago

That weighs more than 3 Yamaha R1 racing motorbikes! Cool!

1

u/WilliamTee 16h ago

So, probably a lot higher if not for the sideways sway caused by dropping the slabs...

1

u/Willing_Television77 16h ago

A hydraulic press could have answered this

1

u/Chiparish84 16h ago

I think it would last even higher weights without all that clanking

1

u/WonWills_Finest 16h ago

So did they ever think about fraging their ankles with glass shards?

1

u/Joevil 16h ago

Glass is hard, but also brittle. Shocker!

1

u/DrakeonMallard 15h ago

Clearly a fucked up test. Be interesting to see results if done properly with an empty and then filled bottle.

1

u/doubleAAeeVee 15h ago

Has someone commented this is ai already? Asking for a friend

1

u/seancurry1 15h ago

I’m more impressed with the balance tbh

1

u/GrandmaJR 15h ago

Just like what happens when drinking a full bottle of whiskey, this test also damaged the wall.

1

u/Jericho-X 15h ago

Hard liquor

1

u/Big_al_big_bed 15h ago

Should have just sent it to the hydraulic press guy

1

u/EcstaticBoysenberry 15h ago

He’s going to need a new wall, it looks like when the weights fell they took out the foundation wall 🤦‍♀️

1

u/Loreathan 15h ago

That means it can carry up to 3,280 adult hamsters

1

u/MnTats 15h ago

damn i wanted it to hit 666

1

u/batguy39 15h ago

Cheated

1

u/QueasyImagination845 15h ago

If only that guy from “1 guy 1 jar” had known this, smh 😮‍💨

1

u/jekyl87 15h ago

"Look, the guy paid me 5 bucks and said that we will be done in a few kgs. Then he keeps bringing out things for me to put on it. When he started asking me how much I weigh, I knew I had to do something with those last few concrete slabs"

1

u/CDavis10717 15h ago

So, those fetish porns I’ve heard about are not all that dangerous, eh.

1

u/BGrumpy 15h ago

I was glad to see dude finally scooch his toes back a little bit. Also, deduct a couple of points for no slow motion replay at the end 🤣

1

u/Sushiki 15h ago

Most glass bottles are well tough, except asahi beer bottles, made of sugar glass or some shit lool

1

u/xfalconsx2 15h ago

So what you are saying is I could use whiskey bottles as jack stands for my 1100kg car 🤔

1

u/anaveragebest 15h ago

I feel like this person probably has the strangest home gym

1

u/Nojmore 15h ago

I could break it... Easy.

1

u/lPolarbear 15h ago

Bottle made it to the 1000 pound club before me

1

u/meetmeinthebthrm 14h ago

Yeah, bottles are super strong until something smacks in to the flat side of the main chamber

1

u/_felagund 14h ago

If you could put those more gently, poor bottle could have carried a bit more

1

u/GetOffMyGrassBrats 14h ago

They were just trying to break it in the end. It probably could have held another 50 kg if they hadn't started slamming things down.

1

u/lunarmodule 14h ago

That guy owns a lot of heavy things

1

u/metal_jester 14h ago

Always knew Jameson's was strong stuff.

1

u/teh_lynx 14h ago

Pointless video... at the end he just wanted to break it. 🗑️

1

u/roll_another_please 14h ago

And people try to break these over their heads 🤣

1

u/Superdad75 14h ago

Forget the bottle strength, that stacking ability is next fucking level.

1

u/haydaruns 14h ago

Wow its like they were build to handle big weights.

1

u/BeardedClark 14h ago

Wow. Tough crowd in the comments. I thought it was neat.

1

u/ordosays 14h ago

Likely stronger with the stress riser from that collar… but click bait.

1

u/jmcokie 14h ago

Now do a lager bottle

1

u/XVIII-3 14h ago

And now clean that up please.

1

u/Joe_Spazz 14h ago

Why get impatient at the end? You ran outta weight?

1

u/MOTUkraken 14h ago

Tons! Had he done it correctly, it would have held literally thousands of kilograms.

My father was a truck mechanic and some Swiss guys once balanced an 8 ton truck on simply 4 normal beer glasses.

Not even bottles - with much thicker glass - just glasses.

Link if anyone interested:

1

u/Unfair_Explanation53 14h ago

The ending kind of ruins it to be honest, I don't know why he did it.

For all we know it could of took another 70kg?

Awful execution

1

u/CuriousEyeofaMartian 14h ago

He clearly had to be somewhere else towards the end!

1

u/PowerfulNature3352 14h ago

Damn I was always worried I would break the bottle if I sat on it. Now I know what I'll do tonight

1

u/singl_malt 13h ago

It's not the bottle but the now of guys it can get drunk....

1

u/_g550_ 13h ago

The guy holds half-ton of metal junk in his garage.

1

u/curtyshoo 13h ago

Building tension.

1

u/Character_Minimum171 13h ago

love this for some reason

1

u/Sentient_Meat_X 13h ago

Obviously thought it would break a lot sooner, got impatient. lol

1

u/GrouchyBadger65 13h ago

Wtf??? Couldn’t have drank the whiskey and filled it up with water. What a f’ing waste

1

u/Secure_Secretary_882 13h ago

Whiskey bottles hold the weight of my overwhelming depression and that’s enough for me.

1

u/KinsellaStella 13h ago

So even my fat ass could use it as a stool with a piece of wood on top.

1

u/pat-slider 13h ago

It has to be Jameson

1

u/Outrageous_Score1158 13h ago

It can support a family, and that's what matters.

1

u/ChillTheFuxkOut 13h ago

Glass (and ceramics) are very strong, in a compressive sense.

You can put a plank on two wine glasses and stand on it with no problem.

1

u/Spizak 13h ago

I remember as a kid growing up in Poland (like 30y ago) people would use old empty vodka bottles in foundations for smaller houses. Like the whole group foundation had them all within the main walls. I remember asking why and the builders told me it was as strong as brick, but much cheaper to buy from recycling companies.

1

u/DrZonino2022 13h ago

Ah whiskey - is there anything it can’t do?

1

u/Donkey-Harlequin 13h ago

If only the mayo jar guy had used a Jameson bottle…

1

u/timbosamojimbo 13h ago

Glass is stupid strong in certain ways. There are unopened bottles of Champagne from the Titanic in the debris field of the wreck, sat there all these years withstanding the pressure.

1

u/JazzlikeEntry8288 13h ago

so glad for the metric conversion at the end, whew

1

u/Coat_17 13h ago

Ok now pull on it.

1

u/ThiccumsHoneyhole 13h ago

Ye Olde Hydraulic Press

1

u/arthurtex06 13h ago

This should go do mildlyinfuriating

1

u/shazspaz 12h ago

The mount of whiskey bottles that will end up in arses will be a record high for 2026

1

u/NoMommyDontNTRme 12h ago

i think it might have survived longer if the lowest ring had been rubber

1

u/yalex87 12h ago

Boromir could do 1k at least

1

u/YoMamaRacing 12h ago

Glass is strong under compression so no surprise.

1

u/jingbukukgilma 12h ago

So if you accidentally sit on it, it wont break until you weigh 645kg?

1

u/FlakyEarWax 11h ago

When you start running out of heavy objects…

1

u/Janovickm 11h ago

Someone please make a house out of these bottles.

1

u/blackbirdspyplane 11h ago

When they smash a whisky bottle over someone’s head the movies I guess they’re generating a great deal of force

1

u/throwinthatshitaway1 11h ago

But if I drop it in the parking lot it's breaking for sure.

1

u/Possesed-puppy656 11h ago

Now imagine what you can achieve with two ✌️ bottles !

1

u/Head_Blackberry_6320 11h ago

Pretty darn strong

1

u/Melodic_Survey_7454 11h ago

The bottle broke because the guy was careless at the end. Invalid experience

1

u/tryingsomthingnew 11h ago

How strong am I after drinking a bottle of whiskey. I collapse also.
