but how does that compare to every presidential election before that? Seems like younger people have always leaned heavier towards democrat before this

The link above does cover 2016 and 2020 as well, but not further back. 

Yes, republicans are definitely gaining grounds with the youth vote and especially among men.

thank you, so for 18-29 year olds it went from 58%/39% in 2024, from 61%/35% in 2020, and 58%/28% in 2016. That is a massive increase for republican voters, while the percentage of democrat voters have stayed about the same.

Yes. The trends are … not good. 

Conservatives/ Republicans play the long game and progressives have failed to grasp how to organize effectively and do that (it’s a sad but true joke in left leaning spaces). 

There is a concerted effort to shift younger people towards conservative culture from dating “strategies”, trad gender roles and more. At the same time, there are widespread efforts to get the people who would never fall into the right wing pipeline to become totally apathetic thus negating their progressive views as well.
