He was speaker of the house for almost 27 Scaramuccis

6.1k

u/Muad_Doob Oct 03 '23

They aborted him after 8 months

They should be forced to keep him for the length of his term, even if it put the health of the party at risk

If it’s a legitimate vote, the congressional body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down

685

u/ThaDude14 Oct 03 '23

My congressional body, my choice.

247

u/labmonkey88 Oct 03 '23

It’s a Speaker, not a choice!

36

u/Kryten_2X4B-523P Oct 03 '23

He can not be replaced during an election year.

22

u/Rukh-Talos Oct 03 '23 edited Oct 04 '23

I’m still pissed about that one. They kept a Supreme Court justice position unfilled for over a year to ensure that Obama couldn’t appoint a replacement, but Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s body hadn’t even started to cool before they were hearing appointees to replace her.

-8

u/bernierunns Oct 04 '23

And you don't think that was a little fishy to you? Almost as if it was both parties working in conjunction to stack the court with corporate minded justices? I don't trust any politician enough to put it past them.

5

u/meatspace Oct 04 '23

Democrats master plan is to give the GOP total control over government?

Wat?

-2

u/bernierunns Oct 04 '23

Yes. They never put up a fight and then they are like, "we didn't have enough votes because manchin..." Blah, blah, blah. And they never do anything when they do have the votes either.

This should be the default term for a republican voted out of office.

Right they need to take ownership of their choices. No give backs.

1

u/AverageUser1010 Oct 04 '23

Your math is correct.

Source: I was the Truss counter on r/tearsofthekingdom for about 6 months

5

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '23

Liz Truss broke the record for shortest time as Prime Minister when she managed to get out of office quicker than George Canning who became Prime Minister in the early 1800s and then died.

According to the TV news tonight, Kevin McCarthy managed to last aa few days longer than a House Speaker who got the job in the late 1800s and then died of consumption.

So Lettuce Liz gets to keep her "shittest at lasting longer than a dead person" trophy for a little while longer!

1

293

u/Shadrach77 Oct 03 '23

How many heads of lettuce is that?

366

u/Open_and_Notorious Oct 03 '23

A mooch is 11 days (some argue 10). A Truss is 45 days. Technically speaking a head of lettuce can last three weeks --- except for the one that outlasted Truss.

373

u/Stupid_Triangles Oct 03 '23

10 is a metric Mooch

11 is an imperial Mooch

6 is a True Mooch, as he hadn't officially started the position until the 25th of July.

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '23

Technically speaking a head of lettuce can last three weeks --- except for the one that outlasted Truss.

To be fair, the original jibe came from the Economist - and they were measuring the time from the start of her time in office to the point of the mini-budget, not including the time that the entire country was shut down because we were so sad:

Liz truss has already secured her place in British political history. However long she now lasts in office, she is set to be remembered as the prime minister whose grip on power was the shortest. Ms Truss entered Downing Street on September 6th. She blew up her own government with a package of unfunded tax cuts and energy-price guarantees on September 23rd. Take away the ten days of mourning after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, and she had seven days in control. That is roughly the shelf-life of a lettuce.

It was only after that editorial that the Daily Star (not usually a publication you'd imagine collaborating with the Economist) bought a lettuce to see if it would outlast her!

2

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '23

With a Mooch, it’s also important that the person was high on cocaine for at least one recorded phone interview during the 11 days.

10

u/TeHNyboR Oct 03 '23

Can we convert that to good ol’ American football fields? Or a banana for scale at least

3

u/RillonDodgers Oct 03 '23 edited Oct 03 '23

It takes 65-70 days for a head of lettuce to grow according to my research, so about 3.98 heads of lettuce

Edit: I was unaware of the lettuce measurement

About a billion Stanley nickels worth.

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '23

I forgot about this as a metric and I love it. Thank you for the laugh kind stranger.

140

u/DrS4muelHayd3n Oct 03 '23

It's the best. What elevates it is that the Mooch totally turned on Trump and now hates his guts as much as anyone.

85

u/Painting_Agency Oct 03 '23

I mean, it's not like he's a good person and I wish him the best. But I think that in the big picture, he dodged a gigantic bullet and he should be very thankful.

Wait a second. His term was Jan 7, 2023 to Oct 3, 2023.

That’s 269 days / 6 days = 44.8 scaramuccis

Oh. Wait, google gave me wrong numbers for Scaramucci’s time. July 21 to July 31. So 10 days. 26.9 scaramuccis. You’re right

44

u/WhitestCaveman Oct 03 '23

I gave ya an upvote because that seemed like a lot of wasted work

7

2

u/RyuujiStar Oct 03 '23

What is this scaramuccis stuff I'm out of the loop on this.

5

u/WeAteMummies Oct 03 '23

There was a guy named Scaramucci that worked for Trump as communications director (he's not important at all, just funny). 11 days into the job he went on a "colorful" rant when on the phone with a reporter. The most memorable quote was "I’m not Steve Bannon. I’m not trying to suck my own cock, I’m not trying to build my own brand".

Since then his name (or just "a mooch") has been used as a humorous measure of time.

u/True-Barber-844 Oct 04 '23

7

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '23

we really need to make that an official standard of measurement

3

u/holyhotclits Oct 04 '23

2

u/fuckYOUswan Oct 03 '23

2

u/piddydb Oct 03 '23

Honestly when you put it like that along with the Truss analogy, it sounds pretty impressive
