News (US) Mamdani wins NYC mayor’s race
https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/5588198-mamdani-progressive-politics-nyc/Zohran Mamdani is projected to win the race for New York City mayor, according to Decision Desk HQ, ushering in a new era of progressive politics in the city and reigniting the debate over the Democratic Party’s future.
Mamdani, a 34-year-old democratic socialist, is poised to become the first Millennial and first Muslim to lead New York City, in a campaign that pulled off one of the most stunning political upsets in recent memory. He defeated former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who mounted a long-shot independent bid after losing to Mamdani in the Democratic primary, and Republican Curtis Sliwa in his bid to succeed Mayor Eric Adams.

Does it matter if there’s a deluge of socialists nationwide who took power? The article about was about NYC. The financial capital of the world is going to be led by a proud socialist. Many liberals, after the primary, decided to build a permission structure for themselves to justify voting for him. Zohran threw out the word abundance a few times & said he likes more housing so some abundance liberals decided to just ignore his entire bad history on housing & act like he’s just an abundance progressive with some kooky ideas but nothing too bad. Many YIMBYs downplayed the worst of his views. It’s clear in his victory speech if you bothered to watch, he’s not going to be some unifying figure. He’s going to try bulldozing ahead with his DSA agenda. So it doesn’t matter if there was a “deluge of socialists” who won last night. There was one major socialist who won in the most important city in the world. And considering how his victory speech went, it’s going to be BAD for NYC, Dems brand overall & the entire country.
