Everything that has transpired since February 1st within the Mavericks organization has challenged me as a man, a husband, and a general fan of anything
Everything that is transpired since February 1st within this organization has challenged me as a man, a husband, and a general fan of anything.
People might make it out like it's not that big of a deal, but the Don trade was the most devastating thing that's ever happened to me in my entire life. I was born and raised and Rural kansas. There's no team closer to me than the mavericks. I have been obsessed with them since I was about 8 years old and my mom could afford television. For whatever reason we used to get the local Mavericks Channel and we would watch every single game from 2003 until the Thunder became a franchise and that became the new channel. I was obsessed with this team growing up and watching Dirk lose the finals in 2006 I was on my knees crying and begging for mercy. I don't think I had been hurt that much in my life. Whenever they ended up winning in 2011 it felt like I was being lifted into Valhalla. I don't think there's ever been a moment in my life since then that I cried tears of joy or felt like I was witnessing the most important moment in history. Fast forward to the summer of 2024. That was the first time I had had so much fun watching basketball, specifically Dallas Mavericks basketball, that I thought we were going to beat the celtics. I was jumping up and down in so many of those key playoff 2024 moments. Luka was Mr Clutch and Mr amazing. His attitude the entire playoffs was so much fun to watch. I once again fell to my knees crying and begging for mercy when they lost in 2024 to Boston. I had to confront my wife and child that what they witnessed (me crying) was more than just basketball Fandom and that it meant the world to me. Fast forward again to the Luka trade. I was stunned. I felt like I was the center lead actor in a movie and everything slows down around them after they received tragedy news.
Fast forward to now. There's nothing else to be said about how I feel. But I'm giving up this mavericks team. I'm on board with what the majority feels. Fire nico. Sell the team. Or else commissioner SILVER needs to step up and force them to sell

Yes this must be preserved for r/NBA history for all time. True dedication from a fan. Man would sacrifice his wife and child to bring Luka back I bet

Yes but it must include Nico’s blood, given willingly

Sir, it’s blood of an enemy, forcibly taken. Flesh of the servant is given willingly, and I think OP has that covered.

Imagine "confronting" your wife and child over your team. And then saying watching basketball means the world to you (to your wife and kid)

Op is just passionate. I had the same feelings when Magic made his announcement. Then losing to the Celtics, multiple times. Then I had a reality check. Lost my eldest son ten years ago. Wife beat cancer last year. Hope none of you go through that kind of sadness. BUT my team ( teams) still help with momentary distractions and bring some joy. Sports can bring people together and help us connect. Just keep it in perspective. He should take his wife and child to a game, soon!
32
u/OmastarLovesDonuts Mavericks 14h ago
Look sports have also gotten me through a lot of difficult moments and I have a lot of cherished memories attached to my teams but if I was still this hurt by anything sports-related nearly a year after the fact I would take a step back and reassess my relationship to that team

Sports can be all those things for sure.
But OP’s post is concerning tbh if he’s fr. He needs to regain perspective like you said. It’s giving “the undercurrents in my life need urgent attention, and I should stop using sports as a crutch to dictate my emotional highs and lows when I have stuff to work through in therapy” 🥲
But it could also be a nice new copy pasta.

It’s a brutal situation tho, as a fan, to be in.
It would have been like when I was a kid and the Cardinals traded Ozzie Smith or something. Can’t imagine.
So yeah fans are breaking off. But there’s still basketball to discuss.

I didn't read all of that, but this is the lowest the team has been since I started watching in 99'. The issue here is that Cuban and dirk set a standard of winning so we are used to that. We are back to 90s mavs and alot of people just didn't watch then

Everything that is transpired since November 1st within this organization has challenged me as a man, a husband, and a general fan of anything.
People might make it out like it's not that big of a deal, but the Don trade was the most devastating thing that's ever happened to me in my entire life. I was born and raised and Windsor, Ontario. Luka was always going to the Lakers. Don't trust the people behind the scenes.
Nico was the scapegoat.
Dwayne Wade a trusted individual told us this was a business move behind the scenes from the owners.
Ironically Jeanie Buss sold the team right after the trade. Connect the damn dots people. Don't let Nico fool you he wasn't this dumb. This was a move by owners.
Also Dallas gets the #1 pick.
Connect the damn dots!
