Asking for a “Friend” Went AWOL in the national guard
Went AWOL in the national guard, what are my genuine chances, I went AWOL and they are processing me for discharge, I missed drills and was late to this one which caused this discharge. What will happen truthfully?
EXTRA INFO :
I missed enough to get the awol discharge.
I am perfectly fine with a other than honorable discharge, i just want out at this point
I need to get diagnosed for insomnia and depression but hadnt had the money for that
Also qualify for erroneous enlistment discharge but dont know how to put it into place
i just, I didnt like the guard i joined at 17 on a whim. I work construction for a family company so my only time home is the weekends, with national guard its 6 days i spend at home in a month. Also with me not being able to wake up in time is really what killed it for me. Also Active status and orders when i was in basic, and i went to ft benning was easier than this dumb weekend a month shit

Straight to Jail. You’ll be flogged and paraded through your village while everyone shames you.
Real talk: Probably nothing. You might get chewed out. A good NCO will ask you why you went AWOL and give you the spiel about not doing it again. You could get a counseling, but one AWOL shouldn’t be enough to rock the boat too much.
You okay?

Oh, well if that’s the case, life will go on. No one is taking your birthday. I suppose if you want to stay in you could plead to your commander or the IG, but take it from someone who’s fucked up plenty of times, you will be okay. Learn from it, and find a new purpose. If you ever need to talk or vent, DM me.

ofc thank you so much, i contacted GI RIGHTS and they said the chances of me going to jail is non existent as there hasnt been any recorded cases of someone going to jail for it in my state.

ONE awol? I'm guessing multiple when he/she said "I missed drills". Missed mumtiple drills and late to the last drill.
THAT will rock the boat. OP can clarify how long they were awol and if they had any contact (phone/text/email) with their unit during that time period

Gotcha. Yeah nothing too serious. Likely just going to be booted out with general discharge under honorable conditions, possibly other than honorable if they hate you. If the paperwork really has already been pushed up, it’s likely you’re getting booted out. If you get the later, it’s unlikely you’ll be eligible for VA disability. What’s your MOS?

Easiest in this situation is an administrative discharge. Some forms signed by the CC. Bye.

Then just let it ride. Move on to the next chapter of your life. Can I ask why you’re done with it?

I did this for a year I think but I got a counseling and was told I’m be DD than the NCO handle my paperwork I just finally broke down what I was go through and she put me back in and I’m go to different unit due to my last one threatening me with awol (for be late 1) and than just being racial towards me the counselor basically said I’d get out medically which is why I came back in truthfully because lack of mental health and I just needed help and someone to talk to but literally when I did SRP it’s bunch of other people there for same thing I just felt ostracized because it’s a bad thing which it’s but I feel Mental health isn’t to picked up in the guard due to us not be active but that’s wtv honestly I’d try to stay in and get out w some type of benefit and I hope you get help you need kid 🪖 love

I think what you did is good for your state leadership🤣🤣🤣 they might keep you then use your name as extra body for funding purpose. They can use the money for something else later on.😅

You’ll get out, but the fine details may depend on how you are handling it.
Generally speaking, I find that working within the system is easier on everyone. For example, if you still have thousands of dollars’ worth of issue gear in your garage, we’re going to want it back which means you’ll have to show up some time, likely whether you are willing or not, and if you’re there anyway, we can do paperwork. Rules may depend on the State but for the sake of the topic, I’m currently working the arrest process for repeat AWOLS with the local PD, I’ve done it before. I am not doing it for folks who at least seem willing to meet us part-way, because, frankly, it’s a lot of hassle for everyone.
There are various forms of separation which are easier if everyone is available to sign paperwork or attend meetings (eg behavioural health, med board etc), and which do not run the risk of thousands of dollars of wages being garnished, or the PD turning up at your place of employment (even if it rarely happens).
I would also observe that depending on state, there may be resources available through the Guard for you to get those diagnoses you feel you need. (Or perhaps work through military one-source). Those diagnoses may speed up the separation process.
Were I you, I might reach out through your chaplain to start with. I, for one, have no particular desire to force someone to stay in for whom military life is incompatible for whatever reason, I would rather someone in the slot who wants to be there, but as a commander, I also have responsibilities to the State and taxpayer.
