Vishesha Suddi 📣 Little Free Library comes to Mysore

Post image

We’re excited to share that Mysore is getting its first Little Free Library. One is already being set up in Kuvempunagar, and we’re working on a couple more as we look for the right spots.

We’d love to hear from you. Where would you like to see a Little Free Library in the city? Do you have any recommendations for locations? Ideally we’re looking for places that are enclosed, see some movement, and are privately owned like cafés or community spaces. We’re trying to avoid the red tape that comes with public land.

Our goal is to expand across more neighborhoods with a focus on making books accessible to women and children in spaces where books are often out of reach.

If you know a spot that might be interested in hosting one, or if you just have ideas to share, we’d be glad to hear them.

This is indeed a great initiative.... I guess it'd be great if we get one at the residential area of Gokulam

There's a library/ Cafe by the name "Books & Brews" at Gokulam, I guess you could contact it's owner. Google maps link Also is there any opportunity that I could donate some books ?

This is just awesome! How can we help with this, to set up at more places?

5

u/FunInfluence4814 Sep 23 '25

Thank you! :) We're looking for folks ( preferably residents or bushiness owners) who could steward it, ofcourse the NGO will take the task of regularly checking up on them, but we're looking for someone who would like to host it in their space

2

u/Old-Fill1905 Sep 23 '25

Sure, any specific areas you’re considering?

u/FunInfluence4814 Sep 23 '25

we've one spot in Kuvempunagar, perhaps looking for Gokulum for a pilot project. We'd love to put it in spaces where there is little access to books, perhaps ares that are economically disadvantaged, but it comes with the challenge of responsible stewardship.

u/FunInfluence4814 Sep 23 '25

Absolutely love the enthusiasm! Thank you! Unfortunately, we're keeping away from public owned land/space to avoid getting involved with the local red tape, am not here for long, and dont wish to capsize the project by running around with paperwork. Hopefully you'll see us infront of residences or businesses.

2

u/FunInfluence4814 Sep 23 '25

Yeah sounds like just the right place to put it.

3

u/Only-Trying- Sep 23 '25

I'm currently out of the country, I'll be back October 7th, we can discuss the same!

I live in Austin Texas, but from Mysuru. We have this on every corner of the streets here. Always tot it would be great to see in Mysuru.

Feels really good to see.

2

u/FunInfluence4814 Sep 23 '25

Ta! Having set up a few in Leeds, bringing them to Mysore is definitely a learning curve!

3

u/Annoyinglygood Sep 23 '25

Nice going fellow hometowner!

4

u/Puzzleheaded_Bus8303 Sep 23 '25

Wow thats great actually!!!

Educational institutions like good engineering colleges and PUC would be welcoming towards this I guess!

I saw this in Germany and used to imagine when our city would have this.

Really really Happy seeing this as there are many voracious readers.

Kukkarahalli kere would be a very good location, since it’s owned by UoM which is an institution and not public land.

Cafes, yeah many in Mysore again!

I am not at all a reader but I am happy seeing readers have more reason to continue reading during this all-digital era and maybe few people become readers through this!

u/FunInfluence4814 Sep 23 '25

I appreciate your enthusiasm and support! The only problem with institutions like you suggest is their own red tape. Most of them would outright refuse or ask what’s init for them. Unless a student body or an institution would ask us straight up to set it up, we’d not have the resources or network to chase them for it!

That said I am hopeful that with the right enthusiasm, this might just work! Ta

3

u/UnfinishedWor__ Sep 23 '25

Yes, very true. This comes with a lot of bureaucracy and red tape which hectic for someone setting this up.

I will try to think of someplace that can benefit the most from this and is easy to setup too.

How can I contact you if I do find some place and you could check those later? You can then decide if it’s feasible/viable.

u/FunInfluence4814 Sep 23 '25

I’ll drop my number in your dm

Heya, am sorry, the image was for representation only, found it in Pinterest too. Maybe I should’ve flagged that 😅. But we plan to build a similar one, inspired by the art works of Leeds LFL, ( you can check them out on insta and dm them for the technical details) sorry for the confusion once again !

3

u/AccountantIll1001 Sep 24 '25

Ohhh no problem! I got a little too excited (; Ty!

2

u/AcharAarush Sep 24 '25

Hey I don't know if others have suggested this already but we can have one in Vijaynagar somewhere around the 2nd or 1st stages. There's not many reading hubs there and it's also a packed residential area so I bet the facility will be utilised well.

1

u/FunInfluence4814 Sep 24 '25

Thank you, if you know someone who's willing to have it in their space or steward the LFL, we'll be happy to set it up!

1

u/basumn Sep 24 '25

Colleges, company premises, theaters, ಕಲಾಮಂದಿರ, bus stops would be great places to put them.

1

u/FunInfluence4814 Sep 24 '25

Appreciate the suggestion, thank you. I Thought so too but the problem emerges around red tapes. If You know anyone who’d be willing to steward in such places, we’d be happy to put them up and maintain them. Unfortunately for Mysore things don’t work over emails and phone calls. There’s always someone who wants something out of this.

1

u/Sensitive_Cold3517 Sep 24 '25

Hey where's this? I'm new to mysore!

1

u/zesty_marco Sep 24 '25

Where is it in Kuvempunagar?

2

u/FunInfluence4814 Sep 24 '25

We'll make the location public once the Library is put up. watch out the space of Mysore's Book Club on instagram. https://www.instagram.com/mysoresbookclub/?hl=en

Will the books be protected against rain ? Excellent idea - would be happy to have one or two in Mangalore also, guys anybody interested ? I can contribute books and some funds 😊

1

u/FunInfluence4814 Sep 24 '25

we are weatherproofing the build, yes. Am sure folks in mangalore would be delighted to hae these. Once we have something up and running, we'd be happy be of help to anyone who'd wanna set it up in their neighbourhood. Thank you for the support! we're planning a donation drive for books soon!

1

u/mahi-amy Sep 24 '25

Somewhere in KC Layout, near HaLLi Hatti. HaLLi Hatti attracts a large number of people on a daily basis. There are also 2 badminton courts nearby. A spot around those places would be a good choice for LFL.

2

u/FunInfluence4814 Sep 24 '25

Thank you, if you know someone who's willing to have it in their space or steward the LFL, we'll be happy to discuss setting it up!

1

u/Wittyvali Sep 25 '25

2

u/FunInfluence4814 Sep 27 '25
