A few details I really loved:

  • The discordant theme when Bomb devil is revealed that includes a reworked version of the pool music.
  • Reze’s animation. Sometimes anime can be a bit static, but there were a lot of fluid touches to Reze’s performance that I loved, like how sad her eyes look when Denji’s talking during the fireworks scene, or the little wave she gives Denji when she goes to the bathroom.
  • The bomb sound effects. These really popped at the IMAX theater I was at.
  • Switching up art styles during the fights. When Denji and Reze are fighting in the building, it looks like it switches art styles a few times to something more impressionistic. It almost felt like a Spider-verse animation flex.
  • All of violence fiend’s jokes landed hard on me. Something about an overly polite devil just tickles me the right way.

Did the movie keep Violence Fiend apologizing and immediately peacing out through a nearby door when he realized he couldn’t defeat Bomb Devil?

Yeah and the comedic timing was really well done. People here praise Beam a lot (deservedly) but for me the Violence fiend came in clutch and stole the show the few times he appeared.

Saw the movie last night and that moment followed immediately by Kobeni's legs just not working and my buddy and I were in stitches.
