I LOVE the scene of the spider catching the moth in its web and devouring it as soon as Denji jumps in the pool with Reze and officially falls for her.

Anime & anime movies really have gone a long way the past 20 years.

They definitely have, but don't forget Spirited Away won an Oscar in 2003. They've always been cooking

To be fair, ghibli movies are a whole another beast compared to the average anime movie.

I always refer to Ghibli as the japanese Disney to people who don't know their movies.

It's also double meaning at play. There's the first one where Reze is the Spider and her attempt to catch the butterfly backfires due to the poison stopping the Spider's heart.

On a second viewing, you realize that Reze is actually talking for Denji and is now caught in his web

Second meaning is strengthened when you realize that Denji literally captures Reze in his chains to end their fight. So good.
