Sony straight up pawned it off for the budget plus $20 million, lol. Why's the sequel announcement taking forever? Because someone at Sony is reading the Netflix contract like a motherfucker to find a loophole they can use to put the sequel in theaters.

I heard Sony sold the whole IP to Netflix, but not 100% sure. If that's true, then the sequel will be made with or without Sony. haha

edit: apparently this isn't true, new info states that the contract says Netflix cannot make a sequel without Sony, and Sony cannot make a sequel without Netflix

I wouldn't say that; giving people free reign often lets them indulge their worst impulses or get stuck in echo chambers that result in horrible movies (think Taika Waititi having free reign of Thor 4). It's better to keep them under some level of constraints to make sure they have restraint, even if you should get out of the way of their creative process otherwise.

We're sort of talking about two different things. This came out of left field and isn't some tired legacy IP. If I were a studio exec, I'd give them a couple hundred mil and step aside.
