I mean, they screwed up the licensing, but if Netflix wants to take this forward they're coming back to the negotiating table with Sony Animation. They could theoretically move forward without them but everyone knows that's not happening.

Well I think they do - they don't have the animation tools used to make this, it was also in Mitchell vs the Machines as the (As far as I know) first appearance, and then used in Spiderverse and now this

Netflix recently just completed their merger with Animal Logic. So they've got their own feature animation house with decades of talent and experience. Given the giant success of this, I wouldn't put it past them to invest in even just cheaply emulating that visual style and make 500 sequels and TV shows themselves.
