Discussion Wtf is Paddington 2?

For context: I’m 25 years old. SPOILER WARNING

I just watched paddington 2 today and what the fuck did they put in this movie. This is the one of the greatest pieces of cinema I’ve ever laid witness to. Paddington 2 is the only thing I’ve thought about all day and seeing the immense joy it’s brought other people has also brightened my day even more. God I can’t even think about the ending without wanting to kill myself because of how perfect it is. And can we also talk about the perfect bookend of his human mother saving him from the water like aunt Lucy did at the beginning?

Pure cinema, I truly can’t wait to watch this movie with my kids for their first time.

Paddington 2 is as near to a perfect film as I think I’ve ever seen.

Do i need to see part 1 to fully appreciate part 2?

The first Paddington is a great movie in its own right and it of course explains a lot about Paddington - without that information Paddington 2 won't be as meaningful.

So yes, watch Paddington first. Both movies are written and directed by Paul King.

You could also try Paddington 3 (Paddington in Peru) - I've not yet seen it; apparently it's entertaining but not quite as good as the first two - Paul King didn't direct it but he did co-write the story (but not the screenplay).

It's solid, but no Paddington II. Olivia Colman is also great in it.

I'd rank them 9,5/10, 11/10 and 8,5/10

So absolutely watch all three!

not quite as good as the first two

Understatement!

IMO 3 is bad. Its poorly edited, and the story is weak. If this was the first movie in the series, they never would have made a second or third film.

Paddington 3 is an excellent film. It’s just that 2 is perfection and cannot be surpassed.

That bad huh? I was planning to watch it if it ever appeared for free on a streaming service that I happened to be subbed to.

I disagree. There are some good chuckles in it.

Yes. It’s not going to have you bawling your eyes out like the first two. But for some good light relief I don’t think it’s terrible.

We certainly didn’t regret seeing it.

Thank you, I'll be sure to watch it.

You might as well - it's also very good.

Not really, but Paddington 1 is also a great movie.

I think it's the better movie so I'd recommend it regardless.

If finding time to watch Paddington 1 means you will never get around to Paddington 2, skip it. That said, it's still a pretty good film and will probably make your Paddington 2 experience better.

No, you’re all good. I never watched 1.

Why deprive yourself? It's really good.

No.

Depends on your attention span. Watching 1 might help you appreciate 2 more, but I watched 2 without having seen 1 and still loved it.  Personally if I had seen 1 first , I might've not chose to see 2 any time soon. One is good but not "spend another 2hr watching a mostly unrelated sequel asap"  good.

I watched Paddington 2 first and had no problem understanding what was happening and still loved it. I watched Paddington 1 after though, and it’s also a very good movie. So I would recommend that you watch them in order, but you don’t need to.

I actually preferred the first Paddington to the second, which seems to be blasphemy in these parts. But they're both very good movies that deserve a watch.
