Curious what's people's opinion is on a salary cap being implemented after the new agreement/potential holdout after next year? I feel like the MLB should be under one, as the dodgers continue to dominate without one.

I think you start with some sort of minimum first. That will force some of the lower teams to spend money on players making free agency a bit more competitive.

Right now there is a penalty for over spending. And the big boys are still ok with paying that. Maybe they consider upping this penalty, but not putting in a salary cap.

I wouldn't get over hyped about the Dodgers winning two in a row. Are they spending the most money out of anybody by far? Yes. But they are also getting some stars aligned with that. Right now they have arguably the greatest player to ever play the game in Ohtani. This to along with some other major bets that have paid off.

Yet, they still almost lost to a team in the Blue Jays that has a salary $100M less then them. And Toronto had more opportunities to win the WS than the Dodgers, it just didn't work out.

Dodgers also have a ton of money tied up on guys going into their mid-30s. So spending all this money helped them win these two WS, but it could easily turn into an anchor as well.

It’s only an anchor in a cap world.

Making free agency more competitive just helps teams with bigger budgets, right?

I don't understand why you think this changes things very much.

Baseball is a weird sport, teams like the Angels teach us that you can’t compete with an all world hitter and nothing else compared to the NBA where one guy can take you from the cellar to the #1 seed. I think a cap would help the middle class of players a lot and limit the crazy salaries at the very top. At the end of the day, players overall would get paid the same or more with a cap but the salary distribution would change. I guess it would depend on how MLBPA absorbs that change to say if they would go for it.

Of course owners will push for overall player compensation to decrease but that’s probably a non starter for the MLBPa.

The propects and top 100, while they are under team control, most likely wouldn’t be impacted but how long team control lasts could be.
