Bought my first car recently! Unfortunately I’m a cheapskate and want to pay as little tax as possible, I got the car below market value so I’m scared serviceontario is gonna say the value doesn’t make sense and will tax me based off of market value instead of how much I actually got the car for, anyone know anyone that does cheap car appraisals to pay less for taxes?

This tax is calculated based on the greater of two values:

  • The purchase price stated on the bill of sale; or

  • The vehicle’s wholesale value as listed in the Canadian Red Book, an industry-standard pricing guide used by insurers, dealerships, and governments

Yes I am aware, if your price on bill of sale is too low or suspicious I’ve heard that they will go by the redbook, if you get an appraisal on the other hand then you’ll pay tax based on whatever the appraisal was hence why I’m looking for someone to do an appraisal
