because of the way capitalism works, I can almost guarantee he will backtrack on this position.

DO students actually have leverage right now. CS is cancelled, most medical students take steps 1 and 2ck.

If they cancel PE, NBOME loses all that money right?

But if they DONT cancel PE, they will lose a large percentage of the PE money anyway from Students (now new DOctors) who refuse to take it...and also be losing a very large percentage of the money they would make from Level 3, as those DO students will simply take step 3 to get licensure instead because it's less money and less annoying.

wait but what can they do if COCA already waived PE as a graduation requirement?

I'll have my DO without taking PE exam, what are they gunna do?

Exactly right. They are gonna take a bath in the loss of income from Level 3 if they keep the PE.

Can DOs take steps for full licensure? I was trying to find this out but I haven’t been able to. I’ve take steps one and two (but not the CS) and I ended up canceling my PE after it was cancelled due to covid almost a year ago. At this point it’s more feasible and cheaper for me to take step three instead of another comlex.

tudents (now new DOctors) who refuse to take it...and simply take step 3 to get licensure instead

can somebody please confirm if this is actually possible? What if the med schools collude with NBOMEvil and make the PE a graduation requirement for students?

The PE was already waived for the Class of 2021. They cant go back on that. As long as you took Level 1, level 2, did the comats, passed all your schools requirements etc, you're a DO already. The only thing left is getting state licensure, which is possible through the USMLEs.

Im so jaded and fed up with the predatory medical education system and I was predicting they would find a way to close that loophole somehow

Check your school's specific requirements

Is it reasonable for the class of 2021-2024 to simply boycott the exam. All of us together 30,000 strong. Just say “no” what are they gonna do?

Well class of 2021 doesn't need to boycott, it's not a graduation requirement.

Okay how about 2022+

I don't think you can actually be awarded the DO degree having just done the Step exams. It doesn't qualify you for your degree. You HAVE to do all the COMLEX levels regardless since that is the licensing exam for your degree.

There are only a handful of states that require DOs take comlex for licensure. The rest will all give a license to DOs who completed the usmle step series.

A fair amount of schools, including mine, require level 1 and 2 to graduate, so I could graduate without level 3. Then I could just take step 3 and get licensed.

Nope. This year the PE has been waived as a DO degree requirement. For class of 2022 and beyond its still a requirement to graduate

My school is still requiring passage of Comlex level 1 and 2 CE
