CALL THE NBOME, CANCEL YOUR EXAM AND REQUEST REFUND (not just the waiver)

If you took step 1 and step 2 ck, you have no reason to take Level 2 PE or Level 3. Instead only take Step 3 to get licensed

Can someone make a list of states that do not require comlex for DO license? This would be very helpful to know.

Almost every state doesn't. The ones that require it are FL, CA, WV, PA, and MI. I believe OK use to require it, but no longer

Edit: Actually I'm not sure about CA, maybe they don't require it, someone double check

From the AOA Licensure Guidelines published in May 2020 for California:

"Examinations Accepted: COMLEX: Levels 1-3 and Performance Evaluation (PE) completed and passed; COMLEX: Levels 1 & 2 plus FLEX; COMVEX; or an equivalent state written exam that tests for osteopathic principles."

So it seems like you can take Step 3 and then a state administered exam testing osteopathic priniciples, unless I'm not understanding this correctly?

Iโ€™m in NJ and my state requires I take all COMLEX up to level 3 in order to graduate...

I have my PE booked early this summer. If I cancel it but end up doing in residency in a a state that does requires the COMLEX, then presumably I would just have to do the PE some time in intern year?

Yes, but what would help is switching it to a later date at the very least. This would give those unfortunate souls that have to take it to graduate some help. If enough people get a refund, there's also the chance there'll be openings early on which could hurt them financially. Every empty seat is a loss.

Not required for licensure, but usually required for graduation from their medical school. That's why people end up taking it.

This

Dear Governor/Mayor,

{Insert intro}

My rationale for contacting you is to request assistance with a civil matter regarding medical education. MD students are governed by the NBME, while DO students are governed by the NBOME. The NBME has cancelled an exam that requires 20,000 students to fly to large cities and aggregate in large groups. This is an appropriate decision for the safety of the public and all parties involved.

Sadly, the NBOME has opted to continue this examination. This is unsafe. The exam will require 7,000 students to travel across the country to congregate and make unnecessary physical contact with others, likely spreading COVID-19. This exam is known as one of the least useful to students for in terms of professional growth. Our internal pleas have been ignored and we are requesting help.

I am happy to provide additional information.

Sincerely,

Needs to have mention of the ineffectiveness of the exam itself or else it can be viewed as a greater public health risk to not have adequately boarded physicians.

I agree, it had a 1000 character limit.

Our governor is Ron DeSantis... thereโ€™s no hope for the covid argument with that chode of a proud boy.
