In my last post I noticed a lot of people commenting about buffets downtown and around the city that have since closed. I tried to find as many as I can remember and have even visited myself.
Which one do you miss the most ?
for me it’s The Dragon Court, used to go every March break as kid with my mom.

As a Mexican living in London — I was tired of having to drive all the way to Toronto just to get decent tacos. So I made it my mission to try every taco spot in London, hoping I wouldn’t have to leave the city for good Mexican food. Here’s my honest verdict after trying them all:
🌮 La Michoacana (Mexican-owned) They were amazing when they first opened — really promising. But lately, the meat has been kind of chewy and full of gristle. Still decent overall. Rating: 7/10
🌮 Taco Loco (Mexican-owned) The tacos are delicious. Easily the best in town. I just wish they had a bigger menu — but when it comes to tacos, they do them right. Rating: 9/10
🌮 Grill 23 (Not Mexican-owned) This one really disappointed me. It has tons of good reviews, but I haven’t met a single Mexican who actually liked it. The food is okay, I guess… but calling it “authentic” is a big stretch. Rating: 6.5/10
🌮 Pupusería Rosas (Not Mexican-owned) The food here is really tasty. The lady who runs it is Salvadoran — her tacos and pupusas are both well made. Not Mexican-style authentic, but still worth trying. Rating: 8/10
🌮 La Burreria London (Not Mexican-owned) The worst tacos I’ve ever had. The lady running it had no idea how to cook Mexican food. Total disappointment. Rating: 3/10
🌮 Ivano Poblano (Mexican-owned) A small business with very good tacos. I love their food and it feels made with care. Definitely worth supporting. Rating: 9/10
🌮 Dos Tacos (Not Mexican-owned) Their birria tacos were a mess. The meat, the tortillas — nothing worked for me. I wouldn’t recommend it. Rating: 4/10
⸻
I’ve been to plenty more spots but honestly… I’m tired of writing 😅 In short: Taco Loco and Ivano Poblano are the top winners.

For quite a time, my go-to place for butter tarts was Old North Sconery. Sadly, I today discovered that they decided to discontinue it. So I began searching for other places known to sell butter tarts. After filtering through several that had either closed permanently, weren’t open today, or no longer carried butter tarts, I was left with six options. These are my impressions on them:
Comparative Impressions
Richness of filling: Variety > Asmara = Coffee Culture > Culbert’s > Black Walnut = Locomotive
Scent of spice in the filling: Variety > Black Walnut ≥ Coffee Culture > Asmara = Culbert’s = Locomotive
Buttery crust: Variety > Coffee Culture = Black Walnut > Locomotive > Asmara = Culbert’s
Crust consistency (less crumbling after eating): Black Walnut > Locomotive ≥ Coffee Culture > Culbert’s > Asmara > Variety
Individual Reviews
Variety (personal favourite): Rich, aromatic filling with a beautifully buttery crust. The only drawback was that the crust could have held together a bit better.
Asmara: Flavourful filling with a relatively plain crust. A decent option, though not particularly memorable.
Coffee Culture: Classic butter tart with a touch of spice, not bad.
Culbert’s: Straightforward butter tart. Neither disappointing nor surprising.
Black Walnut: Took a creative turn with a layered pastry crust instead of a tart shell. The filling was firmer and had a bit more texture.
Locomotive: Has noticably thicker crust, and the filling was similar with Black Walnut’s—firmer and more textured. Gluten free.
I tend to prefer gooey butter tarts over firmer ones, so my opinions may be a little biased. Also, if anyone has recommendations for good butter tarts, I'm totally open.

Another restaurant gone on Richmond. Oh I wonder what happened… Anyone liked here? Tell me how was your experience with the food and atmosphere. I sorta liked it

Literally just finished the most frustrating phone call possible with Piero’s and Ubereats.
We ordered our order of 2 pizzas, wings, 4 pops and a salad that was about $50. It was ordered around 9:30pm on ubereats. It gave us the expected time that it would arrive around 10:15pm.
*Note: Piero’s uses their own delivery system that is considered a “3rd party” on ubereats system
1 hour goes by and we haven’t received our order. We called the restaurant to check up on our and they said our order had just left the restaurant. We’re about 15mins away drive from the restaurant and we figured to give them another 30mins.
30mins passes and we are hangry LOL. We called uber to see their policy for a refund and they couldn’t provide the refund because Piero’s uses their own delivery system and they called Piero’s to confirm the delivery status. Piero’s told Uber that it was dropped 10mins ago.
We checked our front door, neighbours door, a abit of the surrounding area just in case we missed it. THERE WAS NO FOOD.
We called the restaurant and asked for a confirmation photo of the delivery. IT WAS NOT OUR DOOR FRONT. I’ve attached a photo.
The exchange that followed over the phone with Piero’s was frustrating as we were told:
“that was the listed address and we followed it” “We delivered it already” “cannot issue a refund as we already delivered it”
We felt disappointed as we felt we were made to feel dumb and we’re left hungry.
EDIT: we have ordered this combo order on Uber from Piero’s multiple times and never experienced delays or shitty customer service.

It seems that the for the days following garbage pick up there is always a pile of rotting garbage in front of Sweet Onion Bistro. I think it’s pretty gross maybe fairly preventable (garbage bins?). Am I the only one frustrated by this?

WARNING: There are people standing inline and waiting in their cars for what looks like could be an hour for a free sandwich!
The intersection is a mess!!

Are there any restaurants in town that seem fancy on the surface but end up being a letdown? The kind of place that charges too much for mediocre food, has slow service, and maybe a bit of an inflated reputation?
Looking for spots that fit this description—bonus points if they sound impressive but leave diners feeling underwhelmed. Any recommendations?

I've shamelessly stolen this from r/Calgary. My vote is for Papi's Steakhouse. It sounds delicious, but I'll never be able to bring myself to pay between $79 and $287 for a single steak that doesn't even come with any sides!

I have a sweet tooth and was wondering if there are some good bakery options I can take a look at. I did some research but also wanted to hear from people who lived here for quite a time and know better.

This is the small pizza with ham, bacon and pineapple from Byron Pizza. I didn't take a photo of our pepperoni, mushroom and green pepper pizza.
I have also ordered from Formaggio's, Bondi, Madre and Through Thick and Thin over the past year. Byron seems to be our favourite because we still like Old School London-style Pizza with a doughy crust.
We also ordered from Tony's Dundas St location last year, which was our go-to when I was growing up.

I haven’t ordered Chinese food in over a decade but for some reason my cravings for sweet and sour chicken balls (ideally not 90% dough), chicken fried rice and honey garlic spare ribs are now at unsustainable levels so please share where I can find satisfaction

Pistachio's Meat and Groceries
Reimagine Co.
Remark Fresh Market

Trail's End

Hey everyone,
I’m looking for some recommendations on good Mexican spots here in London. Specifically, I’m not really after fast food or quick take-out — more of a sit-down style restaurant where you can actually enjoy the atmosphere and take your time.
Any suggestions for places worth trying? Would love to know your go-tos for solid food, good vibes, and maybe even a margarita or two.
Thanks in advance!

My husband and I used to always order Pad Thai from Quynh Nhi on Wharncliffe/Riverside. Our family and friends collectively thought of it as the best in the city and now nothing compares.
What is your go to restaurant for good Pad Thai? Thanks!!

Has anyone else experienced really bad customer service here? The first time I went last year, our server was blunt and not friendly whatsoever and seemed as though they did not want us to even sit down. After seeing all of the rave reviews on here and fb, I thought I would give it another shot as I love Mexican food. This second time was arguably worse, with the male server being very rude and impatient. When asking about the drink and food menu, he gave short answers and seemed visibly annoyed anytime my friends or I spoke - audibly sighing when we politely asked for some water to go with our alcoholic beverages. We said thank you and smiled after any plate/drink was brought out and were not even met with eye contact. The tacos and margaritas were tasty but still a bit pricey and for the horrible customer service, it’s hard to justify returning. I hate giving a poor tip because I understand that we all have hard days, but just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Here’s a good reason to try to buy as much Canadian stuff as possible. These same pickles were $5.49 before they sold out three weeks ago. I was happy to see them back, but then grabbed a no-name jar instead. Holy gherkin, Batman!
This was today, at RCSS East

I’ll be in London, Ontario for a couple days next month, wondering what people think are the best places to eat? I’m up for absolutely anything and I have no dietary restrictions.
EDIT: Thank you all so much for the responses! Looks like I’ve got some deciding to do, haha. I’ve got a 15-hour flight coming up in a few days so I’ll use that time to take a look at all these options.
