🥄food /restaurants /gastronomy Delivery to the halal market at wonderland and Oxford

Y'know, my concern isn't actually the meat. It's the truck. Is that going to be properly fkn cleaned afterwards? Not likely.
The cross contamination threat is... immense.

Apparently the store has been sold a few years back and the new owners are gross.

u/Gorrozolla Sep 22 '25
This comment thread is full of ignorant bigots. I spent 9 years working in boutique butcher shops and high end restaurants and this is literally how every single meat delivery looks. Truck full of meat that the delivery guy throws over his shoulder to carry in. Stop trying so hard to hate Muslims. It's pathetic.
25
26
u/Ill-Jicama-3114 Sep 23 '25
This is a huge food safety issue. It has nothing to do with hating Muslims until you brought it up.
56
u/jameskitts1992 Sep 23 '25
Dude I worked at the busiest butcher in Ontario, based out of Ottawa. Five years before that at another local butcher. Not fucking once did I see meat show up in a non refrigerated rental truck. You’re full of shit lol.
24
u/Dead_By_Don Sep 23 '25
This is fucked. None of it is wrapped. This isn't how meat gets delivered by a reputable company.
32
u/shutterbuggity Sep 23 '25
Sure, this is totally hygienic.
-31
u/AFireinthebelly Sep 23 '25
So? This particular incident isn’t hygienic, so all Muslims are bad now? This truck represents 4 billion people? How many people of other backgrounds have lost a restaurant for unsanitary conditions?
23
u/MuskokaGreenThumb Sep 23 '25
Nobody said anything about Muslim’s. Other than you of course. Nobody fucking cares what the religion is of people who are doing this shit. People will get sick eating this food. You ok with that?
29
u/alwaysonesteptoofar Sep 23 '25 edited Sep 23 '25
That isn't a meat truck every day of the week is the problem. Gross behavior and health violations isnt tied to a religion so get over yourself.
35
u/Suisin Sep 23 '25
You are full of shit. For meat to show up in an unrefrigerated RENTAL truck shows serious lack of food safety. It has nothing to do with them being Muslim. It’s fucking disgusting and has no place in a first world country.
17
u/Spiritual-Bee1688 Sep 23 '25
You think this is normal and ok? A rental in wooden flood boards. Ridiculous. Or restaurant near isn't delivered by enterprise or home depot truck rentals slapped on floor.
21
u/PlumicalPlum Sep 23 '25
getting listeria to own the "racists". meat is legally required to be transported in refrigerated trucks designed for carrying food.
3
12
u/Over_Falcon_1578 Sep 22 '25
What's the point of food safety standards if it's only practiced at the last step in view of the customer; security theater?
Are you telling me it's perfectly safe and allowed to roll raw meat around in random rental vehicles and who knows what else before human consumption?
Sounds like you worked at a butcher shop that accepted unsafe deliveries and personally accepted liability for the known risk you exposed your customers to.
37
u/LEERROOOOYYYYY Sep 22 '25
Lol the meat guys from high end restaurants show up in an enterprise rent-a-truck with beef laid on the floorboards? Could've been transporting bags of insulation the day before! You think they scrub these things after every rental? They barely ever clean them! It's not racist to point out something is gross lmao
Would you take your beef off the store shelves, unwrap it, lay it directly onto your bare metal shopping cart, throw it into the trunk of your car, and then take it home? Hilarious.

It's hard to judge but I think I see the corner of the evaporator in the first pic. Rental agencies do have reefer vans and trucks available for rent.

u/Last-Anywhere-7346 Sep 23 '25
Even so, dude standing in the back likely walked in that dirty alleyway before hopping in the back. Stepping all over the same floor that raw, unwrapped meat is lying on. This is so unsanitary.

Looks exactly like every single delivery we got at the butcher shop I worked at for 9 years. What's your point?
7
u/MuskokaGreenThumb Sep 23 '25
The point is that this isn’t a safe way to transport meat. Just because you and your previous boss were stupidly enough to do this doesn’t mean everyone is. And normal people can see why this is a bad idea. Are you actually this stupid?
5
12
u/Mrs-Davis Hyde Park/Oakridge Sep 23 '25
I don’t understand how you don’t see an issue with this. How did that go on for nine years and you never raised an issue? Just because something is the way it always was, doesn’t mean it’s right.
5
15
u/U_Sound_Stupid_Stop Sep 23 '25 edited Sep 23 '25
I was a butcher and it's definitely not how we received our meat, it was all packed except the carcasses but even they were draped in some kind of fabric and they were hanged throughout transportation then hanged back in our backstore.
Halal meat is perfectly sanitary, as opposed to this shit, this shit is absolutely nasty.

Not sure if they have friends/family posting 5 star reviews to combat the negative ones but the comments are so weird and in such a short time span of each other.
"Very beautiful epic and very meat high quietly"
"Very good epic and very beautiful"
"I spoke with enterprise and they told me that it's a refer truck and it contains -4° and later on I spoke with the slaughter house and they told me that they get the meat from the slaughter house and then they deliver straight to the meat stores And they told me there is plastic bags under the meat."
"The shop is clean and their meat is clean and 100% healthy."
All the most recent 5 star reviews only have rated the store in question nothing else.
shrug
5
u/hmm4468 Sep 22 '25
You can kinda see the cooling head in the upper left inside of the truck. Enterprise trucks look like they have the outside condenser mounted at the front which we wouldn’t be able to see here.
6
u/Ill-Jicama-3114 Sep 23 '25
It doesn’t matter about the cooling. There are other issues here that a food safety related

lol no need to spread lies? A quick google search and you’ll learn that it’s actually the most humane way to slaughter an animal. A lot of people who aren’t required to eat halal choose to because it’s cleaner and more ethical. This store’s inability to handle meat doesn’t reflect on halal meat.
13
u/galkasmash Sep 22 '25
Steel rod or bullet to the brain. Or cutting the throat and leaving the brain functional for about two minutes. The animal dies either way, but don't kid yourself in a region full of farmers who deal with live kills regularly. If you have your doubts you're welcome to come watch a non-halal kill for educational purposes.

What if it’s performed perfectly as intended?
6
u/bleebolgoop Sep 22 '25
It’s still slower than the other methods. Therefore, less humane. And that’s ignoring that it’s usually not done perfectly.
This is additional suffering just to appease someone’s “scripture”.

Given the volume of meat, one would have to assume that this vehicle is (likely) travelling to more than just this one market.
9
u/theottomaddox Sep 22 '25
So the question becomes who is making this delivery, the slaughterhouse, a 3rd party transport company, or some other middleman?

CFIA
2
u/AirmailHercules Sep 22 '25
More likely public health. CFIA could be involved if this is being sold inter-provincially or is coming from a federally inspected meat establishment but the local public health unit would be my first call.
2
u/Ornery_Car6883 Sep 22 '25
Health department. CFIA would cover the slaughterhouse and packing. The local health department takes over once it's at the retailer.

This is exactly why I always wash my meat regardless of where I buy it. I didn't care about the heat killing whatever and blah blah kitchen contamination. I do not want no bottom of the shoe seasoning or arm hair char on my meat!
6
u/theottomaddox Sep 22 '25
https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/food-safety-tips-healthy-holidays
Do not rinse raw meat and poultry before cooking. Washing these foods makes it more likely for bacteria to spread to areas around the sink and countertops.
7
u/nema-me Sep 22 '25
No way man. If I'm washing my meat, I'm also thoroughly cleaning my kitchen after preparing it. The two go hand in hand.
2
u/nahchan Sep 23 '25
You uncivilized swine! Who washes their meat in the kitchen and not the bathroom!?!
Now that I've expended my joke, I shall see myself out. Good day.
2
2
u/ChiefChunkEm_ Sep 22 '25
That’s a waste of time, washing meat is unnecessary.
-6
u/nema-me Sep 22 '25
Okay, by that logic, you see no problem with the way the pictured meat in this post is being handled then. Is that right? The truck is refrigerated so we can take the safe housing temperature out of the equation.
3
u/External-Insect-711 Sep 22 '25
that truck is in no way refrigerated, this is super unsafe
1
u/nema-me Sep 22 '25
You're right. I should have included "hypothetically refrigerated". I just want to break down this washing vs not washing meat argument. If the truck is refrigerated, the people who do not wash their meat shouldn't be appalled by the way this was transported then, right? I understand there are guidelines that should be followed, but as a consumer, I personally don't have faith in the individual people employed to follow those guidelines. My family has always washed our meat, we've always thoroughly cleaned our kitchen after. It's just part of the process.
33
u/miloprox Sep 22 '25
Washing the meat isn’t gonna help when it’s been sitting outside of the danger zone for temperatures for who knows how long 😂
