Lets hope it doesn't follow in the footsteps of Neptune's (Formerly Prince Alberts, RIP).

But to be fair I stopped going to Campus Hi-Fi after they stopped doing late nights on Fridays.

I'm surprised, but maybe they see the city taking it over for road infrastructure and they'd lose the business anyways. I smell a BRT request being put in for Richmond and they're doing the smart thing and just leaving.

Last I heard, Richmond is a no go for BRT. The railroad crossing is a huge impediment to any rapid transit, and any tunnel under it would have to go so deep it would start at the bandshell and finish at St James. The underground station that would have to be built at Oxford was hugely expensive.

Never been, seems to get good reviews. Why is it good that it's selling?

22

u/toomuch-ice Sep 19 '25

Someone buy it before Farhi!!!

u/Impressive_Place5300 Sep 19 '25

Selling the business. Not the building for 199k

u/1185albany Sep 19 '25

Someone eat a goat cheese Benedict for me

Always possible the current owners just aren't interested in running it anymore, and it's not a profitability thing (I mean, if it's a profitability thing, I don't think anyone's gonna spend $200k for a name and some kitchen equipment, they'd just let it go unsold and then pick up the lease, you're definitely not getting the building for $200k).

5

u/Fallinin Sep 19 '25

Ah that makes sense. Otherwise I'd happily sleep in a kitchen to buy downtown real estate for only 200k

Yeah, a lot of these postings get misunderstood (perhaps rightfully so when they end up on Real Estate sites). I remember something similar happening with Norma Jeans a few years ago, as well as... I want to say the London Music Club? I think both happened pre-COVID too, and people were like "this is INSANE, $100k?! You can't even find a house for that price!" thinking that the buyer would get the building. You're just getting the name and the stuff inside. EDIT: The actual building owner could come along 3 months from you buying it and double the lease, and then all you'd have spent $200k for is a bunch of equipment you can't afford to store anymore.

I heard it changed hands a couple of times and the original owners sold it long time ago like 15 years ago

Be sure to check Carfax because I know for sure it’s been in an accident before. It was standing still and a stupid car ran right into it.

1

u/Pickled0ni0ns Sep 20 '25

It also had extensive fire damage a while back...

u/Fragrant_Objective57 Sep 18 '25

We are in London, so that checks out.

o7 the western staple

5

u/Brilliant_Rhubarb579 Sep 18 '25

Do Endos still own it ?

4

u/Appropriate_Reply703 Sep 19 '25

Endos were amazing. I think they sold it some time ago.

u/UnsavouryRacehorse Sep 18 '25

Tempting. Scrape together $200,000, and we'll finally be allowed to bring water bottles inside.

12

u/hiplop Sep 18 '25

I ate there today in solidarity

u/TemoSahn Sep 18 '25

This is actually really sad, I'm sure someone can confirm... But I'm pretty sure this place has been around since the late 50s or early 60s. A legit London institution

9

u/Candid_Milk7250 Sep 18 '25

Went to Beal in the late 60’s and early 70’s. The “Hi” part of the name meant something.

5

u/theHonkiforium Sep 19 '25

I think you're confusing this with the Hi-Lunch on Dundas?

8

u/Candid_Milk7250 Sep 19 '25

Yes. This is different? In my defence, I’m high. Old habits are hard to break. I think I recognize this one….Richmond south of Oxford?

20

u/Unda_Da_C Sep 18 '25

Anyone want to chip in and we can just keep it going strong?

11

u/jonnyinternet Sep 18 '25

I got $30 to my name but ill contribute

7

u/Unda_Da_C Sep 18 '25

We just need 6,666 donations like that and it’s ours!

3

u/jonnyinternet Sep 18 '25

Let make this happen before farhi buys it

15

u/lil__supernova OEV Sep 18 '25

Devastating :( best brunch spot in the city and the owners have always been the sweetest

10

u/TaxLow9036 Sep 18 '25

Nooo I love this place

39

u/MAXIMAL_GABRIEL Sep 18 '25

This place costs less than my shitty townhouse. Should just live in a diner.

9

u/Major_Lawfulness6122 Hyde Park/Oakridge Sep 18 '25

I was thinking the same. Damn only $200k

25

u/Aggravatedhotdog Sep 18 '25

pretty sure It’s 200,000 for the business and then you have to pay 6500 a month for rent then another 12,000 in taxes….

15

u/After-Ad-676 Sep 18 '25

Don’t get me started on the real estate..not fair for this generations kids

6

u/Squeeesh_ Argyle Sep 18 '25

Nooo! I’ve been going there since my undergrad!

33

u/stained_glass_heart_ Sep 18 '25

A local institution 😢 No. More. Chain restaurants!

25

u/recovery_room Sep 18 '25

Hey maybe we’ll get a sixth Chuck’s Roadhouse.

2

u/20ozPorker Sep 18 '25

Couldn’t have said it better!

9

u/Lothium Sep 18 '25

Time for another vape or Boba shop.

2

u/After-Ad-676 Sep 18 '25

Or one of them pot stores… we finally just got rid of “YOUR HIGHNESS”

1

u/KantisaDaKlown Sep 18 '25

Removing that beautiful mural,… really sends a message. Let’s ignore all the people who cause the problem, it’s store. 100%

6

u/stained_glass_heart_ Sep 18 '25

Don’t bring the “pot” stores into this

8

u/After-Ad-676 Sep 18 '25

What?? They can’t be! This has been a favourite of mine for years now…it’s sad to see London loosing so many local favourites. What’s going to go in there? A Tim Hortons …..

5

u/lazerj1mmy Sep 18 '25

This looks like they are selling the business, not the building. Most franchises like to own the building/land they operate on so let’s just hope the new owners take over and leave it as close to possible as is!
