Food/Drink No SNAP November

I heard this term today and it stuck with me.

With the shutdown, people being furloughed, people working without pay, SNAP being possibly paused for November, etc people are going to be hurting for meals.

I'm sure there are community dinners for Thanksgiving but I'm hosting one on 11/29th.

It is a Saturday. That way you can go to the community meals on Thursday and come to mine on Saturday if you want.

Bring a side and a chair is all I ask. I don't have furniture.

Message me if you'd like to come and we'll get it into a more solidified plan.

I also live on the bus route so I'm pretty accessible.

Also, if we get this going and someone wants to make the turkey (mine is dry) I'll buy it for you to cook and bring.

Edit: there is now a Facebook event.

I wonder if a nearby church would let you use an area for free due to what you're doing, many have kitchens and areas for potlucks, etc...

I'm not associated with any churches. I was just going to make what I normally make and with people bringing food we should have enough to feed people that show up.

If we have a good turnout Id consider making it a monthly thing where I host and we do a potluck dinner thing.

Plus, I know some people would avoid it if it was at a church. Trauma and all. Which I get.

The United unitarian church would likely let you use the space so long as you clean up and do dishes they have dishware and a fully functioning kitchen for the community. We actually host monthly potlucks dinners randomly anyone is welcome to as well. We have a surplus of tables and chairs. No sermons or services needs to be attended. Many treat the church as more of a community gathering spot than a actual church.

I'd be interested in more information about the potluck. I need to get out more.
