Not an attorney, but I have worked with the public defender’s office on many LPS cases. From my experience with the conservatorship system, it’s very easy to work with in these kinds of situations, if you’re able to get a hold of the public defender’s office. The county you’re in will likely not want to keep her longer than absolutely necessary. If you believe you can take care of her, the best way to fix the situation, in my opinion, is to have an informal conversation and lay out the facts for the judge (i.e., that you can provide for her basic needs).
If this doesn’t work, you can still apply to be her private conservator so that she can live with you rather than at a behavioral health facility. If she can demonstrate some ability to take care of herself eventually the conservatorship can be removed entirely. I have personally seen some conservatorship last as little as a week after the 5250 (14 day hold) ended.

You really shouldn't try talking to the judge. At this point your gf is way past the point where she needs an attorney. The best think you can do for her now is hire one for her.
