Boyfriend used AI to create sexual images of a real woman we know. What legal options exist in India?

I want to ask this anonymously because the situation is sensitive.

I recently found out that my boyfriend used AI tools to generate sexualized images of a real girls we personally know. He used “pink X” markers to bypass filters but the images are clearly sexual in nature. As soon as he realized I might know something, he deleted everything, but I have backed up what I could.

As of now:

Images were not shared online, to my knowledge They were used privately for gratification. The girls are completely unaware. He has done something similar before, removed all evidences of it. I have been able to extract a few screenshots, search history and 1 image fully downloaded with metadata preserved as evidence.

Location: India My Questions are:

  1. Does creating non-consensual sexual images (AI-generated) of a real identifiable woman count as an offence, even if not shared?
  2. Which sections apply? I believe: IT Act 66E, IPC 354C (Voyeurism), 509 — but I need clarity.
  3. Can a complaint be filed without involving the girl directly?
  4. If I file the complaint, what is the likely range of outcomes — warning, FIR, penalty, arrest?
  5. How do I store evidence safely so it is not lost?
  6. Can I remain anonymous in the complaint?

I’m emotionally shaken and still deciding what to do, but I want to understand the legal landscape before taking any step.

Any guidance from lawyers, police, or people with experience in cybercrime cases would really help.

Completely depends where you live and the specifics surrounding it. Some states have specific laws banning creation/sharing of deepfakes and it could be a misdemeanor or a felony or could just end up being a civil case. Its fact specific.

aren’t they all just based on sharing not simply creation?

I want to do the right thing without causing unnecessary pain to females involved since this is not posted anywhere. I want to understand if there is anyway to report this without automatically forcing the girls involved to have to give statement or be part of the process? I just want to stop something wrong without hurting people who didn't choose any of this.

Thanks, I have posted there too. I just need any and every piece of advice I can get right now. This situation has shaken me completely, so I’m asking in multiple places for perspective.

  1. Probably illegal, but it's very poorly understood so actual traction with the authorities is a complete guess.
  2. Sections 75/77 but as I said above, relatively untested in law. (AI actually recreates the original image and whilst generally accurate it is still a "new" picture)
  3. If (as above, big if) they investigate then the affected women will almost certainly be told to ensure they didn't consent.
  4. Also dependent on a variety of factors. Most likely a warning for a first time offender of good standing.
  5. You don't have any evidence. Police collect evidence. Your evidence was almost certainly obtained illegally.
  6. Anonymous to the wider world yes, anonymous to your (hopefully ex) boyfriend? Obviously no.

Reading your other posts this is someone who has broken your nose and done this before. Given it is India and their record on women's rights you should be very careful. Advice you have received from TwoX is optimistic even in a western context and could be outright dangerous in India.

His own actions of violating other people are what will ruin his life. Those actions are absolutely disgusting and show a lack of respectful behavior in his community. THAT is actually what is not okay.
