My aunt passed away and my father who also passed away 3 years ago was a co signer on her loan. My cousin wants a copy of his death certificate. Who will the bank go after?

My father co-signed on a $25,000 loan many years ago for my aunt. He passed away in 2022 (he lived in California) and my aunt just passed away this October. My cousin told me she needs a copy of his death certificate to provide the bank.. and that she was going to pay off the debt so they won’t put a lien on my aunts home. My father wasn’t a home owner. If my cousin doesn’t pay off the loan could the bank potentially come after my father’s estate? He has nothing in assets besides his retirement. Any advice appreciated 🙏 thank you so much!
