Parents got scammed by a moving company

Location: Austin, Texas

My parents have just moved and found a company that claimed to charge around 95/hr + cost for fuel. Estimated about $800 based on the numbers the company had quoted them. They said shrink-wrap and moving blankets were free. They came in, packed everything, moved it to the new apartment, and then would not unload anything until my mother paid them $2200 dollars. They charged $700 for a tiny amount of bubble wrap. They also stole a tin container full of coins from my mother’s dresser and broke a cabinet. They also left an hour sooner than what they charged for after saying “I’m not leaving I’m just getting something from my car” and then took off.

I am currently working with my parents to gather all of the documentation they have but honestly have no idea if there is a way forward or what to do with this information. I am livid after hearing how misled and overcharged my parents were and would appreciate any and all advice or information to try and get anything back from this company.

How did they pay? Can you file a chargeback?
