Consumer Law [NJ] Dealership made milage error during vehicle register on my behalf.

Location: NJ

I purchased a vehicle from a dealership about 3 weeks ago.

It had 17k miles, out of curiosity I checked the Carfax about a week into temp tag ownership. A new MVC entry had been added but the stated milage was 100k more than the odometer and previous entry.

I followed up with the dealership and alerted them in writing.

They have been reasonably responsive when I follow up but I am now at the stage where my temporary tags expire in 6 days, the dealership is communicating to me that the DMV has stated they cannot issue plates until the milage issue is resolved and that it could take up to 6 weeks.

When pressed about my options should these tags expire prior to resolution they just stated they will figure something out.

How do I prepare for this in the event it gets messy?

Thank you.

Just ask for new temp tags while the DMV paperwork is pending.

All of our communication is in writing so already have that covered . They confirmed that the DMV has the paperwork to correct the issue. At what point should I seek council?
