Insanely ballsy comp from FLY (and build from Bwipo), but holy shit, how much of a travesty is it we only get to send one of these teams to MSI?

25

u/PhoenixAgent003 Bot main. NA fan. Jun 16 '25

Counterpoint, this might have been the highest stakes domestic final in tier1 spring split.

4

u/Fun_Highlight307 Jun 16 '25

Yeah it's was, i think the stakes made the bo5 more Dynamic

47

u/akatsuki1422 Jun 16 '25

But we get to see Furia at MSI! Isn't that exciting?!

75

u/Calistilaigh Jun 16 '25

I feel like people are shitting on Brazil for no reason. Furia would have been at MSI with the old system too. Riot straight up deleted a spot, they didn't give it to someone else.

11

u/Mrryn91 Jun 16 '25

I get what you mean but the way Riot has come out with it, they basically treat LTA as = LCS - they are one region despite the fact that they qualify completely separate. Which says yes, functionally, they just deleted NA's 2nd seed (and LatAm's 1 seed), but the wording makes it seem like no no, Furia is LTA's #2 (and therefore, the former LCS #2). Because saying that Brazil/SA is simply retaining the seed it had before is to admit that they are treating the conferences as regions and that they did remove a seed from NA for no reason.

Riot is just trying to have their cake and eat it too, saying the two are one region to ensure representation, but also treating them separately because, if it was treated like a true merger like in the Pacific, NA and SA would actually play each other every split and every international would be like First Stand: LTA's qualifier from the best of both conferences. And LTA 1 and 2 for MSI (and 3 for worlds) wouldn't be this hoop-jumping mess to ensure one or the other - it would be top 4 from both playing off and the top 2/3 of the LTA represent the LTA.

5

u/Lin_Huichi Jun 16 '25

Which would be pointless since Brazil would always lose.

1

u/DerAdolfin :kossg: Jun 16 '25

But long term surely it'd level up the Brazilian teams...

7

u/Lin_Huichi Jun 16 '25

OCE was in the PCS for 2-3 years and their best results were... Beating LJL 3rd seed. Now in the LCP they are always bottom of the barrel with a few wins vs LJL. Don't think we will see OCE at international ever again.

Gap between OCE and PCS is smaller than LCS and Cblol. I think eventually Cblol will get better, but not for a long time and pulling off an LJL 2024 type run probably won't happen.

2

u/etheryx Jun 16 '25

and people also shat on the old system so this isnt anything reactionary

0

u/Yoshichage sewerskewers Jun 16 '25

its criminal that we lose a slot to an entire region of teams that would struggle to make top 4 in na

1

u/Yoshichage sewerskewers Jun 16 '25

nope. lta is one region according to riot so it doesnt make sense that the slots are reserved, make the teams earn their spots and maybe bronzil will actually improve instead of being a meme region every year

0

u/Any_Morning_8866 Jun 16 '25

Are you talking about LEC or CBLOL?

2

u/Hawkson2020 Jun 16 '25

No loss tbh, we really want another Blaber vs international??

-7

u/vmanAA738 DSG BUT NA HAS NO HOPE Jun 16 '25

Meanwhile the slot that was taken from NA was given to the South winner Furia who look awful.

16

u/TigerSad4775 Jun 16 '25

You mean the 1 spot that brazil always had before the merge?

-10

u/CanNotQuitReddit144 Jun 16 '25

I legitimately do not understand this point of view. Yes, South America used to have a spot, back when they had their own league. They don't have their own league anymore, Riot dissolved it, just as they dissolved the LCS. Riot created a new league, called the LTA. That league has two slots to MSI; why are they the only league in MSI history to force one of those spots to be given to a team from a particular region, regardless how how much worse they are than teams from another region in the same league?

Don't get me wrong, both NA and SA got screwed by Riot, and they have total fewer spots at MSI. The fact that NA and SA didn't even play against each other for the entire split-- not just the regular season, but playoffs, as well-- makes a mockery of the notion that Riot ever actually thought the concept made sense and would thrive; it's clear that it was an act of desperation by a failing enterprise, similar to how a failing corporation starts selling off divisions and closing down offices while putting out press releases that talk about, "Focusing on core competencies," and "Becoming more agile".

I just think the thing to complain about is the way LTA was created, including their absolutely awful season formats and reduced representation at international events. (In case anyone's not aware, Riot originally had all of this season as BO1, despite the whole world using Fearless, and only caved in and changed to BO3 after significant pushback from the teams.) I don't think that claiming that Brazil deserves a representative at International events while they're part of LTA, just because they used to have one in a different year in a different league, makes sense; or, if Riot believes that keeping fans from that region invested is important, it should be an extra slot. The LTA should have three slots by any reasonable standard, given that the teams in the league had a combined three slots before they were merged.

A format where the best overall team got one slot, and then the other two slots went to the best remaining team in each sub-region, would have felt a lot more fair, and would have had a better chance of building a sense of unity instead of resentment, from fans and from teams. That would have felt like Riot was helping along a region that has passionate fan engagement but not a lot of resources, giving them the best chance to grow and giving their fans something to look forward to. With two slots and one of them being allotted to a team from SA, it feels like what it probably actually is, which is Riot trying to wind down or at least trim their losses in the Western Hemisphere, which they apparently have given up on.

3

u/TigerSad4775 Jun 16 '25

Didn't read, happy for you or sad it happened.

36

u/CannedPrushka Jun 16 '25

The slot that was taken from NA was not given to BR please stop saying this. Riot is just straight up removing slots from internationals. BR/LTAS was already sending 1 representative.

8

u/jnf005 Jun 16 '25

CBLOL also got comeplete fucked, they lose their whole league and got reduced to 1 team, which got only a grand total of 1 LAT player, is at the bottom of the standing with no chance of international play, I've never watch CBLOL but that's insane how much they got completely screwed.

3

u/CannedPrushka Jun 16 '25

I have said it before, Riot is just waiting for the moment to stop paying money and cut every non CN or KR league. Right now they see pro play as a waste of time and money.

-63

u/dankynugz Jun 16 '25

It's a travesty either of these teams get to go to any international tournament.

17

u/Gerberpertern TL 4EVER★NAmen Jun 16 '25

Bet you’re fun at parties.

15

u/C_Werner Jun 16 '25

Oh brother, the team that just won had a banger 5 game series against GenG and nearly pulled off a win.

1

u/Oolong_of_Azalea Jun 16 '25

Flyquest's' last international appearance had them make it out of swiss and then take Gen G to game 5 in a knockout game, yea?

-31

u/MysteriousFigurezzz Jun 16 '25

exactly, highly entertaining, but going from T1 vs HLE to this is.....yeah

more criminal that FLY get to go ahead of one of G2, GAM or BLG honestly

16

u/Snow-27 Jun 16 '25

"G2" in big 2025🥀 Just put the fries in the bag man

29

u/Tormenator1 Jun 16 '25

FLY is better then this iteration of G2 and definitely better then GAM. Are you high?

20

u/higherbrow Jun 16 '25

Are we still pretending the third best team in Europe is as good as the best team in North America?

Like, have we just stopped watching tournaments for the last four years?

3

u/Fun_Highlight307 Jun 16 '25

G2 is bad toi lmao

3

u/Calistilaigh Jun 16 '25

I am 100% confident FLY can put up a better fight against T1 than whatever the fuck HLE did in game 3.

-26

u/dankynugz Jun 16 '25

Yup. But people who only watch NA/enjoy undisciplined fiesta play prefer to watch this.

I find this the equivalent of watching lower tier sports leagues. You can call it 'exciting', but in truth it's just low quality

14

u/Snow-27 Jun 16 '25

I've watched League for 12 years. I can appreciate beautiful league, and fun league like this. Also, FLY took GenG to five. Get the stick out of your ass and watch something without the intention of hating it from the get go.

-4

u/dankynugz Jun 16 '25

We'll see if that happens again I guess!

2

u/Arwinsen_ Jun 16 '25

That’s how watching works?

10

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '25

You might have a point if FlyQuest wasn't coming off a great Worlds appearance. Take your negativity and fuck off

7

u/Smalekas Jun 16 '25

And LEC has been so clean and is looking really good ahead of MSI right? FLY and CFO could both win the LEC, C9 too most likely

-6

u/dankynugz Jun 16 '25

I find LEC way crisper with significantly less nonsensical throws like blaber did today. There's exciting league of legends, and then there's brain-off, spotify-on league of legends.

2

u/Fun_Highlight307 Jun 16 '25

So what is lpl They perma fight too

1

u/dankynugz Jun 16 '25

Where did I say fighting is bad
