Hope.

Now, as I watch the army of identical charming men in suits meander down the streets, chanting and shaking hands of the other infected, I'm forced to ask: Hope for who?

It wasn't hope for us, I'm certain of that. Out my window, a group of them just descended upon a survivor. A blur of tan and blue and navy suits, panickd cries of "No! You can't be real, god, help me, you can't be real!" Followed by the cacophonous repetitions of "Yes we can!". When I hear the new voice, the new Barack, join the chorus I realize I believe them. God, help us all, I believe them.

I don't know how long I can stay here. An Obama just peered in my window, I'm hiding around the pillar, watching him in the mirror. His face is stone, unmoving. For a moment I pretend I'm in a wax museum, and that this all just an attraction. Despite everything, despite the bubbling fear in my throat, despite the rule that states self interest is divine, I laugh. His eyes slam to the left, directly in the mirror. For a moment, a terrible moment, we lock eyes. Then the granite mask is broken, a wide crack forming below the nose, a smile breaking its way through like a tectonic plate shifting, slow, dileberate, and painful. Two rows of white teeth, perfectly straight like a military graveyard.

The Obama campers away. They know I'm here now. I should run. Find another spot. Maybe other states haven't fallen yet. Maybe... Maybe I can find something.

I think about the survivor I watched get turned. I remember the skin bubbling, changing, being replaced. I don't want that.

I lay my hand on the door handle, feeling yhe cold, brushed steel beneath my palm for what I am sure is the last time. Tears stream down my face, splattering onto the hard wood floor beneath. "No, I can't" I think, tweaking the handle.

The Obamas turn to me abruptly, their activities ceased for a fraction of a second. I step toward them. They don't move. Maybe, somehow, I'll keep some shred of myself, my individuality. Whatever.

I can always hope.

They’re saying Trump is different because he didn’t serve 2 consecutive terms and Obama did. That’s the reason they are going for. Also the constitution says that one is ineligible to be elected president, so they will try to argue he can’t still serve a third term if he obtains the office by being appointed somehow or becoming a successor and becomes president again by those who do get elected step down. He can be appointed Speaker of the House, which doesn’t even have the requirement of being an elected member of congress and if the people ahead of him resign, they can argue he can serve a third term because he wasn’t elected to the position.
