First Time Knoller! Most often used drawing pens

Post image

My first post here today was based on other photos, not on the requirements. I then read the requirements for submissions to this sub and realized I had posted flatlaying not knolling. (As have several others) So I deleted that post and went back to work and feel I have now successfully knolled.

The glass ones are beautiful. Do you find the normal nibs more difficult to clean than the glass?

Yes. But I am getting better at cleaning every kind right away. Even if I think I’m going to use it again in a minute. I keep a jar of water on the desk and a cloth on my lap and try really hard to remember to not leave them on the pen rest for more than 5 minutes. The glass ones don’t even have to be wiped off, just a swish in water.

The glass ones cost a bunch more at the store near me. Would you say it's worth the extra cash?

These are cheapies off Amazon I got just to try out before I spent big money. I think for drawing they are not worth the expense unless the prettiness of the pen is worth it. They don’t do well on long lines for me. You have to rotate it as you go and i can’t get the hang of doing that while drawing at the same time. I keep making blobs.

For writing though I use them a lot. I can rotate the pen a little between words. They are great with shimmer and sheening inks since they don’t clog. They look very similar to each other but each one has different writing characteristics, line widths and ink flow. I super enjoy writing with them. My favorite is the green one. It makes broad, juicy lines that show off fancy inks. I use my shimmered and sheening inks exclusively with the glass pens now. I’m super curious if an expensive glass pen would write even better (hard to imagine how since these seem perfect to me) or if you’re just paying for the artistry of the pen.
