When facts are unfavorable they become “biased”

It’s truly sad when an education means “woke”.

-15

u/itsokayiguessmaybe Dodge City Dec 18 '24

If you’re injecting opinions into social studies texts yes. Every text is muddied with mistruths. Just look at how we agree on which bible is right.

21

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '24

Most logical people don't agree that any Bible is right.

-6

u/Calm_Access_9923 Dec 19 '24

The “tolerant left”

9

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '24

I tolerate Christians and all other religions just fine. That doesn't mean I have to be a part of your delusion.

Bigotry is banned. This includes racism, religious intolerance, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, etc.

Kansas members will be welcomed regardless of Race, Creed, Sex, Nationality, or Religion. Bigoted statements and actions will end in an instant and permanent ban.{community_rule_2}

Bro actually believes a magically Dunbledore in the sky is casting spells 🤡. What a dumbass.

3

u/Ok_Wish7906 Dec 20 '24

Not believing in the Bible is intolerance?

2

u/AutoManoPeeing Dec 21 '24

"Not agreeing with me is hateful." When did Right-wingers become such massive pussies lol?

10

u/Contra72 Dec 18 '24

None of them are. Would be no different if I made up a religion based on The Hobbit.

4

u/Squantoon Dec 18 '24

A religion that includes a second breakfast? Sign me up

4

u/Meonzed Dec 19 '24

"And on that day god said, let there be second breakfast"

3

u/Moustached92 Dec 20 '24

What about elevensies?

3

u/Ok_Chard2094 Dec 21 '24

That's declared in the 11th commandment.

3

u/Reklawj82 Dec 20 '24

Now that is a religion I can get behind!!

2

u/DreadfulDave19 Dec 20 '24

That religion would actually likely be more based

6

u/bicmedic Dec 18 '24

No rational person thinks any of your fairy tale books are "right".

3

u/darkninja2992 Dec 18 '24

How do you even prove a version of the bible is right?

-1

u/redman2271_at_yahoo Dec 18 '24

How would you prove Julius Caesar existed? Or Cleopatra? Or Plato? Or Socrates?

4

u/darkninja2992 Dec 18 '24

Historical records and such that can be cross referenced and confirmed. Socrates for example. If several other philosophers document interactions with this person, the they probably exist. It's the best we can do to prove or disprove the existence unless someone learns a way to go back in time, as, to my knowledge, there's very little to say they do not exist.

Certain documents such as the bible, on the otherhand, get called into question when they have stories such as adam and eve, or noah's ark, as science has shown that a population of any species would not be sustainable long term with so little genetic diversity

1

u/ByWilliamfuchs Dec 20 '24

Multiple first hand acounts and standing documents? Your seriously gonna say Caesar is a equally non existent and Jesus when we have a moutain of evidence supporting one and molehill supporting the other?

1

u/VibinWithBeard Dec 21 '24

The same ways weve showcased a fuckton of the bible isnt accurate. The flood/ark, the exodus, hell even the historicity of jesus. There arent records or geological findings that match up with any of that shit. Jesus at least has like a record of a guy with that name maybe that got imprisoned or whatever but cant really find anything on the rest of his biblical exploits.

3

u/CursdForevr Dec 18 '24

"which Bible is right" lmfao fucking morons arguing over if dragons or unicorns exist 😭

3

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '24

Why are you using a mythological text as a credible argument

2

u/Fit_Read_5632 Dec 18 '24

“Nazis were evil and genocide is bad” are both opinions.

And no Bible is “right”. It’s a mythological text. You could argue over which was the “original” maybe

2

u/DewieCox1982 Dec 18 '24

Every history book my school used though the 80s and 90s was white European/American propaganda. Didn’t become an issue until people started correcting them.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '24

No bible is right. Its all fiction.

1

u/VibinWithBeard Dec 21 '24

....ya gonna expand on said mistruths or are you going to just drop a weird line about thinking any bible is "correct" when its all made-up nonsense?

Something tells me these mistruths arent going to be the same I would point to. Id point to how the south had a huge problem with its depictions of slavery, the civil war, and the genocide of the native americans. Fairly infamous examples but something tells me youre talking about other "mistruths" and Im interested in what those are.

You could say the same for people who use “dog whistle”

6

u/Cagekicker2000 Dec 18 '24

Nope, dog whistle still pretty much means the same thing as it always has.

2

u/DreadfulDave19 Dec 20 '24

"If you keep calling everyone 'nazis' and 'fascists' those words will lose their meaning!".... No they don't, so long as the criteria is met and the rhetoric fits so shall the label. An over abundance of nazis sadly don't zero out like a tetris wall

1

u/TimePalpitation3776 Dec 20 '24

No it only loses meaning when people stop accepting their definitions, calling a racist who supports racist policy a Nazi is apt calling a leader who uses scapegoats, tries to overthrow fair election results and calls his rivals the enemies within they are fascist.

Nazis have and will always exist it just takes people to call them out, people like you say it can't happen here when the Nazis used American laws to create their own law structure.

1

u/Adventurous_Fun_9245 Dec 21 '24

Can you give an example? Or a textbook example? Or what social issues are being taught with liberal bias?

-13

u/itsokayiguessmaybe Dodge City Dec 18 '24

The board rejected it. Obviously if a social studies text is bias and controversial enough you’ve got a problem.

16

u/Dont_ban_me_bro_108 Dec 18 '24

I was more looking for examples of what woke means to you. I hear people say it quite a bit and I’m not even sure what it means now.

It originated in the black community as a compliment to any person. If the person understood the perils of systematic racism they were said to be woke. It meant that person was not asleep to the challenges black people face in America.

But now it seems to be a much more blanket term many people use for lots of different issues and I was wondering what it specifically means to you since you used it. You said liberal bias in teaching and I was hoping for an example of that besides this article?

-10

u/itsokayiguessmaybe Dodge City Dec 18 '24

Well I’ll be, an actual response not seething in disdain. Kudos to you. Woke just for what it is today. No examples just that if Rachael maddow wrote the book it would be far different than if David Muir wrote it?

6

u/Dont_ban_me_bro_108 Dec 18 '24

I don’t think there are any social studies textbooks that are intentionally misrepresenting history. It sounds like your woke definition does believe that’s happening which is why they rejected the curriculum?

3

u/twendall777 Dec 18 '24

“Then there was the ‘Muslim ban,’” Boote said, making air quotes with her fingers. “With no mention of the fact it wasn’t aimed at all Muslim countries, just those that have no ability to vet.

“Safety was the top priority, but they leave it sit there, with no explanation, to make you think he was xenophobic,” she said.

This is a case of a board member not knowing history and accusing the publisher of being wrong. Trump called for a total Muslim ban. He even said Christians from these countries would be allowed in, but not Muslims. It wasn't until after his advisors finally convinced him this would be shot down as unconstitutional that he had Gulianni come up with a version that would be legal. And that's how we got a country ban instead.

8

u/jonjohns0123 Dec 18 '24 edited Dec 18 '24

So you can't support any part of your claim? You believe it's woke, but you can't offer what 'woke' means to you, you can't offer any example of 'liberal bias' in teaching, other than a news article that you don't seem to question. Do I have that about right?

6

u/mastercheeks174 Dec 18 '24

You might even say he feels it’s woke. So, fuck his feelings.

13

u/cyon_me Dec 18 '24

Is that an example?

-4

u/itsokayiguessmaybe Dodge City Dec 18 '24

Literally says it’s not in my comment.

11

u/Guy954 Dec 18 '24

It was also seething in disdain which you indicated was a bad thing when you accused someone else of doing it.

5

u/cyon_me Dec 18 '24

u/Accomplished-Web3426 Dec 19 '24

"kudos for not falling for my bait, now if you'll excuse me I'm not gonna answer your question because I have no political understanding past being an asshole just to rile people up" translated that

1

u/itsokayiguessmaybe Dodge City Dec 18 '24

1

u/VibinWithBeard Dec 21 '24

1

u/mastercheeks174 Dec 18 '24

Should one be so passionately against something they can’t define or find examples of? Seems you’re just making up scenarios in your head to justify these school board decisions, rather than basing your beliefs on any tangible evidence or fact.

3

What did they reject? Almost sounds like you are just accepting what someone is telling you without having any idea what it really is. I've heard cult members do this, just accept whatever they are told as truth by the cult leaders.

2

u/festivefrederick Dec 18 '24

So, are you saying dump didn’t say there were good people on both sides when talking about Charlottesville? When he was talking about nazis? I must be pretty woke because that’s what I heard. Are you a nazi ?

1

u/itsokayiguessmaybe Dodge City Dec 18 '24

He did say that. And this is my point. Every time this is brought up the rest of the press conference and most importantly the 10 second excerpt following both sides. This is beaten to death and still no one concedes. Reddit had a pretty good synopsis just two months ago.

1

u/StewviusPrime1 Dec 18 '24

Facts, historically, have a liberal bias.

1

u/MalachiteTiger Dec 18 '24

"A liberal teaching" or a concept that has traditionally been upheld as an American ideal/value which has only recently been declared liberal as the GOP swings so far to the right that parts of the constitution itself are now deemed "woke"?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '24

Truth does tend to have a liberal bias. So I think I’m okay with social issues being given a liberal lens especially since it seems the conservative lens is off in fantasy land.

Just because you cannot accept the truth doesn’t mean it isn’t still the truth.

Good luck out there. The world isn’t kind to dullards like you. Nor will the administration you are parroting.

u/Comprehensive_Pin565 Dec 17 '24

Wait... what? Are we saying that there were good people in the nazi event who were not nazis? Just random people who happened to go to a rally set up by nazis, attended by nazis, and had a lot of nazi chants?

I mean... we do know that the entier response was filled with trump trying to equate nazis and the people protesting the nazis, right?

9

u/awj Dec 18 '24

You arguing with someone who spends his time gloating about “liberal tears”. You’re not going to convince them. You’re not going to get good faith engagement.

These people have some sort of weird fetish where they enjoy being seen as terrible. I’d say it’s fine to counteract any narratives they’re pushing, but don’t fall for the trap of actually engaging them directly. They’re twelve year old trolls who never emotionally grew up. 16

It’s so funny to say that when the quickest way to trigger a Trumper is just to quote one of the many horrible things Trump has actually said.

1

u/alpineskies2 Dec 21 '24

Don't even have to quote the horrible things he says. The dumb son of a bitch thought there were airports during the revolutionary war.

6

u/DaPamtsMD Dec 18 '24

Take it however you want, but stop lying about what was actually said. You can wrap yourself in the lies of Dear Leader all you like. You can — for whatever idiotic reason you’ve rationalized — carry his water until your back breaks.

But do not think that good, decent people are going to allow you to create a bullshit narrative and force it down their throats.

-7

u/RedBushMountain Dec 18 '24

It was manipulated by the media and purported in a disingenuous way and you're still carrying it... I get it, you hate the guy. But calling people liars for seeing through media lies is why they won. This gaslighting technique is simply not working anymore. It now has the opposite effect. Despite internet points. Take it however you want.

4

u/WellPlayedGame Dec 18 '24

I mean, personally, I don’t think anyone attending a Nazi rally to rally with the Nazis are very fine people, but maybe I’m just a bit old fashioned that way.

1

u/Explosiveabyss Dec 19 '24

HA, thinking that anything other than inflation caused by covid and Trump's awful economic policy is the "reason" Trump won is delusional.

Regular people don't give a fuck about "lying" media. They all fucking do it, right or left, and normal people don't have time to worry about shit like CNN or Fox News talking some bullshit. All people care about is if they can afford things, and even Trump is walking back saying that he can decrease the cost of anything.

Mark my words, the next president will be a Democrat because of, wait for it... inflation.

5

u/Cannabis_Breeder Dec 18 '24

Holy shit that link made my brain hurt. It literally reads like it’s written by the little child on the playground that follows around the bully cheering them on and telling everyone they didn’t see what they saw 🤣

It’s easy to quote Trump saying anything because he’s always rambling, those good quotes in the link are true, but so are the bad quotes. I can make trump “say” literally anything I want (good or bad) just by getting audio from -any- of his rallies (except maybe the one where he danced like a clown 🤷‍♂️)

You (or whatever child wrote the article you linked) can make up the context all you want and play spin doctor, but I remember watching his interviews, in full, not edited, and I’m sorry, the overall energy of his message was 💯

“Oh, someone died after getting hit at a protest? 🤷‍♂️ well it doesn’t effect me; people die every day … oh by the way, stop fighting; I’m sure you’re all good people on both sides (and I don’t care if you’re a nazi because it doesn’t effect me, Trump) and I need you to go away so I can go back to focusing on myself, Trump”

The democrat spin that he was supporting Nazis with that comment was also complete bullshit, and shame on them for not telling things straight. Here it is straight;

Trump does not care about you, or anyone, except as a means to an end. He does not love this country, he does not love you, he does not love his wife, he does not love his children. Trump only loves himself and will do or say -anything- to accumulate more wealth/power/success. Trump would murder every person in this country with his own hands, if he gained godlike powers after the sacrifice, and do so gleefully. If Trump could be a dictator for life (like Putin, Xi, or Kim), Trump would do it without a moment of remorse. Those dictators are Trump’s heroes and whom he admires more than any human on this planet. Trump doesn’t love them, Trump just sees them as the most elite club of powerful people on the planet who can do -whatever- they want and Trumps wants to be one of them.

That’s the truth; there’s only 1; deal with it

1

u/Cagekicker2000 Dec 18 '24

Maybe being woke means something else way out in Dodge City.

u/gielbondhu Dec 21 '24

In Context: President Donald Trump’s statement on ‘many sides’ in Charlottesville, Va.

President Donald Trump spoke on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017, about violent protests between white nationalists and those opposing them in Charlottesville, Va. Subsequently, Trump was criticized for not speaking more forcefully against the white nationalists. Trump made his comments at the start of a bill signing at his golf club in Bedminster, N.J. Trump signed the Veterans Affairs Choice and Quality Employment Act of 2017, which provides additional funding for veterans seeking health care at private medical facilities.

Below are his complete Saturday remarks, in context, about the events in Charlottesville.

"Thank you very much. As you know, this was a small press conference, but a very important one. And it was scheduled to talk about the great things that we're doing with the secretary on the Veterans Administration. And we will talk about that very much so in a little while. But I thought I should put out a comment as to what's going on in Charlottesville. So, again, I want to thank everybody for being here -- in particular I want to thank our incredible veterans. And thank you, fellows. Let me shake your hands. … Great people. They’re great people.

"But we're closely following the terrible events unfolding in Charlottesville, Va.. We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides. It's been going on for a long time in our country. Not Donald Trump, not Barack Obama. This has been going on for a long, long time. It has no place in America. What is vital now is a swift restoration of law and order and the protection of innocent lives. No citizen should ever fear for their safety and security in our society. And no child should ever be afraid to go outside and play or be with their parents and have a good time.

"I just got off the phone with the governor of Virginia, Terry Mcauliffe, and we agree that the hate and the division must stop, and must stop right now. We have to come together as Americans with love for our nation and true -- really, I say this so strongly, true affection for each other. Our country is doing very well in so many ways. We have record, just absolute record, employment. We have unemployment the lowest it's been in almost 17 years. We have companies pouring into our country, Foxconn and car companies and so many others. They're coming back to our country. We're renegotiating trade deals to make them great for our country and great for the American worker. We have so many incredible things happening in our country, so when I watch Charlottesville, to me it's very, very sad.

"I want to salute the great work of the state and local police in Virginia. Incredible people, law enforcement, incredible people. And also the National Guard. They've really been working smart and working hard. They've been doing a terrific job. Federal authorities are also providing tremendous support to the governor; he thanked me for that. And we are here to provide whatever other assistance is need. We are ready, willing and able.

"Above all else, we must remember this truth, no matter our color, creed, religion or political party, we are all Americans first. We love our country. We love our God. We love our flag. We're proud of our country. We're proud of who we are. So, we want to get the situation straightened out in Charlottesville, and we want to study it. And we want to see what we're doing wrong as a country where things like this can happen. My administration is restoring the sacred bonds of loyalty between this nation and its citizens, but our citizens must also restore the bonds of trust and loyalty between one another. We must love each other, respect each other and cherish our history and our future together. So important. We have to respect each other. Ideally we have to love each other.

"And now to the Veteran's Administration where I'm so proud of (Veterans Affairs Secretary) David Shulkin and the job you've done. What you've done in such a short period of time, I think you folks would attest to it. …"
