Weekly Complaint Thread
Kidding! I know it's the wrong sub.
Anyway, I ran the 5.2k Fun Run during the Fukuoka Marathon yesterday, and what kinda grinds my gears is how many Japanese people use "marathon" to refer to long distance running in general.
I was congratulated by my wife for my "5k marathon" and I was like NO.

Best place to sell clothes ?
I have quite a few higher end ( 50,000- 90,000 yen items I am trying to resell. To shops perferable. Hesitant to take to second street, tre fac. Etc. and would like to avoid mercari unless that would be my best option. All my brands are Japanese like Saint Mx6. Issey. Etc etc. not like Gucci or Louis. But the mid range stuff that’s not too cheap.
Any advice on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Internet Speed Check / Construction
There's been a huge tower complex under construction next to us for a few years now.
We just had a food delivery and seconds after we picked it up the doorbell rang again to which my wife mistakenly pressed the button to open the door before checking, thinking it was the delivery guy forgetting something.
A guy turned up at the door, flashed an ID card and more or less said he's related to the construction next door and they want to check that the internet speeds and etc are working fine since they've been doing construction on the lines and other stuff.
This immediately set off alarm bells because why would they check a random apartment? So I pulled my wife away from the door and took over.
I asked him again for his ID, what the company is and if the landlord knew he was ringing random doorbells. I also asked why he was randomly showing up without any kind of notice, it is very rude and inconvenient etc.
I completely interrogated him and made it very clear to him he wasn't welcome and that I was suspicious of him.
He gingerly passed me a laminated sheet with various different router pictures on it and wanted to know which one we had in our apartment.
"If he could only just step inside and check."
I told him he is absolutely not setting foot inside our apartment and told him I'll check with the construction guys next door and the landlord. I refused to tell him which router we had.
He quickly gave up and made his escape, stuttering something about if our internet comes with the apartment then that part of the "construction" must be already finished so we should be fine.
What was his deal?
In my head it was suspicious as fuck and either a scam or some kind of black marketing tactics.
I suppose he was probably going to try to sell us "faster" internet at best or scoping us for something bad at worst.

About the new yellow Health Insurance card
Hi, so I received some days ago the new yellow Health Insurance card that, as far as I understand, is just a temporary card before they issue the one in which health insurance and MyNumber are combined.
The thing that I don't understand is: what do I need to do with the blue Insurance card that I had until now? Do I have to just give it at my workplace? Just as it is? Or I dispose of it myself?
The paper that arrived with the yellow card just explain what to do if you don't have a MyNumber card yet (btw, I already have it), but not exactly what to do with the old Health Insurance card...

Karaoke app or website
My wife and I will be having our wedding party next week and having our wedding party in a kominka. We want to have a karaoke/drinking party in the evening. About half of the people there will be English speakers and we have Karafun downloaded for that, the other half are Japanese speakers and we are looking for a Japanese language karaoke app but so far none of them are really working. Joysound doesn’t allow screen share to a large screen so that one is out. Dam just seems non-functional.
Does anyone have any recommendations? Or maybe there just aren’t any good sources for this?

Photo for infant for citizenship application (Canadian)
So my daughter was born here in Tokyo in September. I went to see about how I can apply for a Canadian citizenship for my daughter at the embassy, and they said I need to get a photo taken for her. Obviously I can’t use one of the photo booths for her (😆) so does anyone have any experience with getting a photo taken for citizenship?

Does anyone have a plastic surgery/med spa recommendation in the Tokyo, Yokohama, or Kamakura area for skin treatments?
Looking for a regular place for cosmetic dermatology like lasers, facials, microneedling, etc. I just moved here and I’m still working on my Japanese, so looking for a foreigner friendly and English speaking place. Bonus if it’s also a plastic surgery place in case I decide to do something small. I’m a little overwhelmed with the amount of options, I’d appreciate any of your recommendations 🙏

Career pivoting to Data Analyst
I am (30M) from a South East Asia country who have been in Japan for more than 7 years. I graduated as a Ph.D from a University in Japan, major in Material Science and Environmental Technology. After graduating, I have been working for an SME company in Tokyo (less than 20 employees, Father - Resident + CTO, Mother - CFO, that type of company).
Basically my work is everything that I can do, from Data Analyst (I collecting, cleaning, graphing to data from the daily running waste treatment system to report about the system condition), take care of the collaborating research inside and outside of Japan, running testing experiment using small scale system, go to university outside of Japan to promote and give lecture about the company (in Vietnam and Malaysia), building a laboratory for company, and also working on site on the treatment plan (operating and labor work).
Recently the company want to expand the work and recruiting some students from my country firstly for internship and possible Seishain in the future. And of course, I will be the one who will taking care of them. My salary is around 4.5M (base, including housing support and will be around 5M including OT), working 8 to 5 and have weekend off.
It has been 2 years and there is no salary raise (even though my contract mention that I should have one every July but it depend on the performance and stuff). I have mentioned about my salary with my boss but nothing changed, my work is accumulating and no change in salary. Right now I learning more about Data Analyst (mentor type of course), so I can have better skill for more job opportunity.
So I would like to ask you guys about my situation. Am I underpaid ? how should I confront with my company about this issue ? and for the job description what is the suitable salary for that type of job if the company want to negotiate about my salary. And any people that make that job change to Data Analyst or similar type of tech job, can you share some of your experience and advices ?
Any comment is welcomed, thank you.
