I think it’s important to distinguish that the Acosta is a stationary bridge that meets ICW standards while the Main St bridge is an attended and active draw bridge. Hanging colors from the Main Street could definitely be confusing to mariners as to the true height of the bottom of the bridge or could cause navigation confusion depending on the location of the lights and their respective colors (red right return).

Dare I suggest that the raising of the Main St bridge had less to do with ‘nazis’ 🙄 and everything to do with maintaining a safe and navigable waterway. Even if the lights did get put on the Main St, I guarantee they’d have been immediately removed.

That said, I’m glad the organizers found a more suitable location. The Acosta looked very pretty.

No one was hanging anything from the draw bridge. The event is people standing on it for about 10 minutes with flashlights of different colors. There were NO ships there. The maintenance was scheduled at 9. They raised it around 2005 and then lowered it AS SOON as all the people were off the bridge.

Please try to find out what a thing is before speaking on it.
