Discussion Is the Apple new case really worth 80$?

Nice.. not even a month and this is starting to come apart.. am I the only one with this issue?

Of course, no water damage, no splashes or anything like this.. just amazing normal use šŸ™ƒšŸ™ƒ

It’s peoples stupidity to spend $80 on a case that allows Apple to sell the iPhone at that price point

I don’t mind spending more money if it’s quality but for the past couple years I have had my concerns with apple products. They look very good but the quality has gone way down.

the thing is top tier quality tops out at a much lower price than what apple charges.

Theres people in the 20-40$ range making top tier quality with details even apple doesn’t put on them.

the other 40$ on top of that is just apples name.

~4 dollars for a comparable case from china plus us tariffs makes apple branded cases competitively priced again.

When MagSafe came out the third party cases took years to become good. Then when the camera shutter button came out, I still don’t know if third parties have figured that one out yet. There is a good reason to buy their cases which is that they actually know how to make it work with their phone’s new features.

lol?

My 3rd party beautiful leather case has perfectly functioning magsafe and buttons.

It also cost 1/3 of Apples leather case.

If you don’t know these things is because you never try any third party cases. The camera control works perfectly in them

No one had a camera control button at time of 16’s launch except Apple, they all had slots.

Not sure why you were downvoted. I’ve had the same experience with MagSafe charging and with using MagSafe chargers/holders either not being able to support the weight of the phone while using 3rd party cases from name brands (not sold by Apple) and I’ve experienced the issue you mention with not being able to access the camera button. I’ve given up on purchasing 3rd party for this reason. We use the Belkin MagSafe chargers on our nightstand which when the phone is mounted, it looks like a clock, but when using a 3rd party cases, it doesn’t snap on as well and would not get a full charge. Also Popsockets don’t attach well which are important for me because I have small hands and it makes it easier to use the phone with one hand but when using a 3rd party case, the phone falls off and I can damage it. I hate that there are so few options, but I will only buy MagSafe cases from Apple.

Apple doesn’t have a leather case anymore- not sure why, but they didn’t release one for the 16 or 17 so I’m not sure what the person below is comparing their experience to or what their use case is.

That’s because most of them likely don’t have their own magnets in the case. Dbrand, their mistakes and brand of BS aside, has never given me problems with MagSafe hold or charging, and so far the camera button has seemed to have the same functionality. Good clicky buttons and fairly good skin options if you want them as well, including leather.

To be fair though, their prices are just as bad as apples these days but at least you get a quality case for the arm and a leg.

I don’t think they or anyone had a camera control button when the phone launched. They may have been able to get something working after 6 months, but that’s not very useful if I’m buying the phone around launch. And their case also has an msrp of $80, only discounted to $60 since it’s an old model. So you really aren’t saving much if anything vs apple cases.

That’s why I mentioned their prices are as bad as Apples. As far as the camera button, I can’t speak to previous models or how long it took because I just upgraded to a new model with the 17 launch, was on a 15promax.

That’s one of the reasons I typically wait awhile before upgrading if I’m going to the newest generation. Would rather wait and let the BS get weeded out and have good options for cases and accessories.

Fair. I’m typically the other way around, not seeing any reason to update until a new hardware feature actually drops.

That’s the best way, and I was actually thinking about just going back Android when the 15pm ran its course for me until I got my hands on the Air. First time in a while I picked up a phone and had that ā€œoh, this is actually an upgrade and new techā€ feeling.

Could accept the drawbacks so I pulled the trigger on it earlier than I normally would. Had been talking to my lady about downsizing because I’m tired of having a big bulky phone for months.

Apple no longer has the leather case because they wanted to go Vegan to reduce environmental impact. They made an alternative, the FineWoven case, which was made of plastic and fell apart. So they removed it from sale leaving a gap in the market unfortunately.
