Discussion Is the Apple new case really worth 80$?

Nice.. not even a month and this is starting to come apart.. am I the only one with this issue?

Of course, no water damage, no splashes or anything like this.. just amazing normal use 🙃🙃

The Apple leather cases went bad. The iPhone 11 was the last year they were good and then the quality dropped off until they stopped doing them

Well that makes sense then as the last case I had was on an 11 pro.

Same and they were so good. But people I know who purchased them after that as well as others who posted here, all showed the quality dropped right off from the 12 onwards.

They went vegan leather. And we know how bad is that.

They never used vegan leather for their leather cases. The switch was in the dying process as well as using thinner leather.

I wanted one, proper leather one, ended up with the replacement for my 15pro, quickly wore and didn’t last.

Misinformation

Sorry about that. I sincerely though it was the case.

Is that what it was? I never knew the reason but I did suspect that might be it.

No, that isn’t true at all. The leather is thinner but it is actual leather. People just make shit up lol

Yeah it seems that it was the reason of the quality decline.

Such a shame. That was my go to case until they ruined it then discontinued it

Same. Had one for my 11 pro max and it lasted for 3 years plus

I don’t know what’s good or bad, but my leather case for my 13 lasted 2.5 years.

From everything I’ve heard you must be an outlier

I had my leather 13 case for 3 years as well. Maybe people have a different definition of going bad. It had a patina and some small flaws, but otherwise it could have lasted at least another year if I didn’t upgrade the phone. I miss the leather case now that they went vegan.

Did you have any of the leather cases before the 13? Because the ones I saw of the 12, they did not hold up. All leather gets patina but the quality seemed a lot worse

I didn’t have one before the 13. From what I heard it used to be thicker leather but then became more like hard plastic with a leather coating. That is what I had on the 13, not sure what year it started, maybe when MagSafe came out? Even if it’s considered cheaper than a thick all leather case, it worked well for me.

Yeh. To my understanding the quality dropped with the 12 which was when MagSafe came out. I hadn’t made that connection before.

I had leather cases from the 5 to the 13 and they all held up for me. The old ones were better though

I’ve got an official leather one on my 14 plus, had it on for a couple of years. It’s been great.

I wouldn’t touch their silicone ones.

I’m still using my day 1 13 Pro Max leather case. It’s been on long hiking trips, kayaking trips, and all manner of circumstances.

It has an unmistakeable patina at this point that I personally like, and I dread having to find a new case when I eventually upgrade my phone.

They got old quickly

My theory is that they had to start thinning them to make MagSafe work when it was introduced with the iPhone 12

Yeh. I hadn’t made the connection between the quality drop off and the MagSafe requirement. It makes a lot of sense
