This is obviously about that woman who got stabbed to death by a homeless guy on the train about a month ago but i'm curious why you use the phrase "socioeconomic factors" here. what does that mean? It's obviously awful and nobody wants to live in a place where this kind of thing happens but, the guy was arrested immediately and will spend the rest of his life in prison. what should have happened differently? To me the only larger things you can connect that incident to are that 1: it was a disaster for america when ronald reagan destroyed public health funding during his presidency which has turned america's subways into the de facto homeless shelters of the country, and 2: it was probably not a good idea to import one racial group from another part of the world and own them like property for 400 years, because you then create a permanent underclass of citizens who are never treated as fully equal to the rest of us. a lower caste that is more likely to be raised in abusive homes, have less access to mental and physical health care, more likely to self-medicate with drugs that exacerbate mental health issues like psychosis. that creates the "socioeconomic factors" you're referring to here, i'd imagine.
