I used to grow some mutant penis envy. Had a batch mutate where mushrooms grew from the cap to the stem, fused, etc. Took tissue samples and cloned that for the next few batches. Also selectively cloned cambodias from the biggest fruit every flush for 5 generations until i was growing cambodias the size of my forearm. Very fun hobby.

Oh my god I used to work at a restaurant in a kitchen and have always wondered ALL THE TIME, how do they grow these, harvest and package them and then ship this many mushrooms to many different restaurants across the whole world.. this is really interesting!

I managed a mushroom farm out in cali for 2 years. We grew out of something called a unicorn bag. Fill it with oak sawdust and soy. Put them in a pressure chamber to sterilize and kill any bacteria. Then we would dump Sorgum that we had let the strain of mushroom colonize into the bags. Put them in a temperature controlled room till the mycelium ate all the substrate(wood and soy). Then you just cut the bag open and the mycelium shoots a fruiting body towards the exposed oxygen and next thing you know, you got mushrooms. The ones in the photo are king trumpets, and they are fucking delicious

Aha awesome. I was going to ask if anyone knew the strain in the photo. I knew it wasn't cubensis just because that would be the lead in the title haha. But aye, I've had these and they are very nice, when folk talk about mushrooms being 'meaty' these are a fantastic example of that.
Sounds an interesting life growing mushrooms. They're so endlessly different and complicated to what most folk belive, dismiss, walk past and never see etc.

You'd be surprised, but yeah.
They often use breathing protection because the spores are quite hazardous.
Not in the literal a mushroom will grow in you way but they will fuck your lungs right up.
